Doctor Henry Morgan may be immortal but his TV show isn’t. ABC has cancelled the Forever TV series after one season of 22 episodes.
On the Forever TV show, New York City’s star medical examiner (Ioan Gruffudd) can ascertain things that most can not because of his vast experience — he’s been alive for 200 years but can’t figure out the how or the why. The rest of the cast includes Alana de la Garza, Lorraine Toussaint, Donnie Keshawarz, Joel David Moore, and Judd Hirsch.
The series debuted last September to a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.26 million viewers. The ratings grew for episode two but they started falling after that.
Though the Forever series had some very passionate fans, that devotion didn’t translate into positive ratings. The numbers were pretty poor for much of the season and the show ended up averaging a 1.12 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.93 million viewers.
As a result, ABC has decided against ordering a second season of Forever. The last episode aired earlier this week and unfortunately left viewers with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Did you like the Forever TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a larger audience?
I can’t stop thinking about this. I haven’t had a show I really cared about in years. Networks need instant cash back. NOW, NOW, NOW! Some under 30 something or over 30 something who just show what they like. They haven’t been able to fill that time slot so, cancel a great show and try again. They should take their heads out of what they sit on and move this show to over 50 somethings can see it! GIVE IT A CHANCE! 90 to 1 your going to cancel the show you replace it with anyway. Not the shows fault… Read more »
Let me also ask the female viewers: Is not Dr. Henry Morgan one of the most attractive male characters to come along in years? I should think so. As a male viewer, I would certainly say he is one of the most interesting and enjoyable. And that’s not even to mention the chemistry between Gruffudd and de la Garza, which I think is comparable to Fillion and Katic on Castle. This could be the role of a lifetime for Gruffudd, if the ABC execs did not have their heads so far removed from daylight that they can’t see a potential… Read more »
@Elliott Miller..
YES to everything you said!
Well said.. I’m one of the 30 somethings that think it’s awesome.. Put it on earlier.. or on another night.. (NOT FRIDAY) and give it another chance.. This has the potential of being another Castle, or Greys’ Anatomy giving the chance.. And it has a great cast! Dumb move ABC..dumb move
Who is the wise guy who decided to cancel a show that shows lots of potential. C’mon people, put it back!!!
I am very disappointed, this was a great show! You keep these stupid shows on t.v that nobody watches and take the good ones off. This is not a good system in place!
Finally a good, decent show…No sex, drugs, cursing, etc Just a good set of characters and stories and a great plot. Very unique!! Then, what happens? You cancel it!! Come on ABC! With so much garbage on TV, can’t you leave a good, well written show on? My whole family looked forward to Tuesday night and made sure to watch it on-Demand the next day if we happened to miss it. Please bring it back!!!
I found this series a lot better than some psychic drama, it was well put and each episode was exciting. Being quite interested in series I didn’t think that it was losing ratings and was being cancelled. I do hope some other firm renew it with original cast. Who knew ABC has the original gun and Adam was holding fake. Will miss you, Henry 🙁
Really??? Can’t you leave a great show on TV these days that is appropriate for the whole family. This was a well written show with excellent actors. Nothing inappropriate! Different than anything else on TV. Who rates these things anyway? Get a better staff!!! Keep this show or no more ABC for me!!!

as usual, another good show bites the dust, i really question the ratings system.
ABC NEEDS to reconsider!!! Please think about series such as M.A.S.H that failed to receive prominent first year ratings, yet went on to become a phenomenon. This show is the only show we are excited to watch, and has such an incredible potential to flesh out it’s already interesting story line. 2000 year old villain killed with a blade used to murder Caesar! Heck, they are even rounding out Lucas into being a good character. Excellent cast, well written, and filmed. Don’t make me send you a “strongly worded letter”!!

You made a big mistake ABC… Sure a smarter network shall pick it up…
This is a wonderful brilliant show. Brilliant! I was faithful and gosh I loved to watch the episodes at least twice.
They are making a huge mistake. Why the heck is it on at 10! I have told so many people about this show! Move it to a different time slot and bring it back!!!!
THIS IS INSANE. I WILL NEVER EVER UNDERSTAND HOW THESE RATINGS PEOPLE EVEN KNOW WHAT GOOD PROGRAMING IS. I LOVED THIS SHOW NEVER MISSED AN EPISODE, WAS KEPT GRIPPED TO MY CHAIR. THE PEOPLE ON THE SHOW WERE WONDERFUL AND HENRY WAS AMAZING. THIS IS A TRAVESTY AND I BELIEVE THAT THESE HEAD HONCHOS NEED TO LEAVE THE DECISIONS UP TO THE VIEWERS ON WHAT IS GOOD AND WHAT NEEDS TO GO CAUSE THEY HAVE NO CLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! VERY DISGRUNTLED IN SOUTH CAROLINA
It has been years since I’ve found a show that is worth watching. I have watched other shows that have ended far too soon but the cancellation of Forever frustrates me. It had so much potential that it seems to have been cut before it even had the chance to really flourish. It is wonderfully casted and the writing is superb. It didn’t need flashy explosions to keep my attention. Certainly, the deathly timeslot was crucial to its demise. Hopefully there is a network or even another avenue out there that can keep Forever alive.
I, too, am incredibly disappointed about the cancellation. We get horrible shows like the bachelor or bachelorette coming back year after year but something really good just gets passed up. ABC may lack foresight but what about the people who didn’t watch it????? Not sure where the interests of TV audiences are these days.
Maybe a cable company or another network could pick it up.
Hi I really enjoyed watching Forever ABC sucks for not renewing it for a second season, but wants to keep. American Crime what is wrong. With the network big shots. If this show isn’t picked up I’m no longer watching anything on ABC.
