Inspector George Gently is coming to an end. Production has begun on the final two installments of the British crime drama. The series began in 2007, and there have been 23 installments of the series, which stars Martin Shaw as Detective Chief Inspector Gently.
Martin Shaw said the following about ending the BBC One series, per Chronicle Live:
“It’s wonderful to be coming back to the show. We’re a very happy and close company, and working with such friends is a joy. I’m excited at being able to bring the series to a proper finale, a farewell that befits such a popular series.”
Peter Flannery, an executive producer on the drama, also shared his thoughts on the series ending. He said:
“It’s been a privilege along the way to work with talented and committed teams, and I hope that many of them will look back on George Gently – as I will – with pride and pleasure.”

Am a viewer from across the pond and have been watching George Gently on our PBS station for years. Really enjoyed all the episodes of this series. Wish that it would continue, don’t like to see good shows end, there are so few good shows today.

I am from America and I love this show, am in love with Martin Shaw, DCI Banks and Vera. I have found so much joy in these British shows and the entire crime/police/mystery series. I hope they never end.
I am really sad to see this show end because it made me think of my high school days (late sixties) and I loved that about the show. I also loved the characters, and am hoping that Rachel and John end up together, I love them both. Makes me wish I had a career in law enforcement in the sixties! Best of luck to all of them and let them know AMERICA LOVES THEM!!!!
