Lone Star: FOX TV Show Cancelled After Two Episodes

by Trevor Kimball, September 28, 2010

Lone StarWe all saw it coming. One of the most anticipated TV shows of the new fall season, Lone Star, has been cancelled after two episodes.

Lone Star centers around a handsome conman (James Wolk) who lives a double life to swindle investors and an oil tycoon family. He starts to have regrets and struggles to balance both lives and keep everybody happy. Others in the series are Jon Voight, Adrianne Palicki, Bryce Johnson, David Keith, Eloise Mumford, and Mark Deklin.

The FOX series debuted last week to a very disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.1 million total viewers. Last night, despite several days of buzz and campaigning to get new viewers, the ratings fell even lower to a 1.0 rating in the demo and 3.23 million viewers. As was the case in week one, many people who started watching tuned out before the episode was over. For whatever reason, it just didn’t click.

Lone Star has been cancelled effective immediately and the three remaining unaired episodes have been shelved. There’s no word if FOX will get around to releasing the remaining episodes at some point in the future.

Last week, the cast and crew were shooting the sixth installment. Production has now been shut down and it’s unclear if that episode was completed.

Lone Star’s spot will be filled by the season three premiere of Lie to Me.

What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lone Star be cancelled? If you watched, where do you think it went wrong?

UPDATE: Subsequent reports have indicated that there are six completed episodes with four left unaired.

I am disappointed that this series has been cancelled. I watch USA Network and all their programming that run series like White Collar and Royal Pains and thought that FOX was on the right track with this series. Maybe trying another night or airing at different times would help. But please Bring it Back!!

I am disappointed that this series has been cancelled. I watch USA Network all the time and thought this could be one that rates among them. Maybe trying the USA Network or airing at other days and times would help. BUT PLEASE bring it BACK!!

I really enjoyed Lone Star and was just getting into it. I thought it was really intriguing. I kept trying to find out where it went in the TV line-up and could never find it – now I know why! I can’t imagine why the viewership would have been so low for such a great show – maybe it was just scheduled for a day and time when something else popular was showing (I can’t remember what else was on at that time). I hope they bring it back in the summer – would be a great summer series.

I really liked the show. I thought it had the potential to be another “Dallas”. I’m really disappointed to see it cancelled.

I’m so disappointed it’s been cancelled! It is a great show. BRING IT BACK!! Try a different time slot or maybe when all the other shows are in re-runs. It was the only new show I actually was looking forward to seeing each week. Otherwise it seems all the shows are police, lawyer, or doctor shows. Oh and of course, reality crap.

What a disappointment. I kept watching for it and couldn’t believe they cancelled it. They only seem to put on killing and distruction. There is nothing to see on TV.

Very very very upset to see them cancel the show. It was truly a GREAT show. I even went as far as to make sure my DVR was set to record the entire season.

I think the show ‘Lone Star’ was FANTASTIC and my family and I are really disappointed that your station felt the need to cancel it. We where looking forward to future shows to see if con man dad got his just deserts and son got to finish the wind mill project, was discovered about his “two” woman and so forth. This such a let down. I really get sickof another great show biting the dust as it is.

The only original well plotted series to come out in years. It had love, crime, family conflict with the son feeling loyalty while the father only wanted to use him. The time setting was a nice change and the characters were well casted.
If that had been some bloody gang show it would still be on.
I now hesitate to invest any time in future Fox series ventures.

I am devistated. I watched both episodes and found the series refreshingly different and unpredictable. I loved the setting and the juxtoposition of the characters’ conflicts.
It was the best show to come along in a very long time; maybe since Dallas. It wasn’t given time to develop and was shown opposite fad shows like Dancing With the Stars. Having said all that I realize I am outnumbered by those who worship lack of substance and bow to blood, car crashes, and street crime. What a travesty and a dirty shame.

Loved the show (Lone Star) and the cast! As soon as I got a “Sneak Peek” I set my TiVo for a Season Pass! Very disappointed to find it cancelled. Personally, I can’t stand “Lie to me”.
I find fewer and fewer Fox shows I like. Soon I will skip it altogether when I look at the guide!
