BET reportedly wanted the cast of the Being Mary Jane TV show to film season four and season five back-to-back (presumably to save on production costs). However, Gabrielle Union had it in her contract that there would be a significant break between seasons. That lawsuit was ultimately settled but there’s been no word on if Being Mary Jane has or will be renewed for season five. Will it be cancelled instead? Stay tuned.
Being Mary Jane revolves around the life of a successful TV news anchor from Atlanta, Mary Jane Paul (Gabrielle Union). In season four, when Kara (Lisa Vidal) helps her land a gig as a correspondent on a national morning news show in NYC, Mary Jane makes the move to achieve her lifetime career goal of becoming a national lead anchor. The rest of the BET cast includes Margaret Avery, Aaron D. Spears, Richard Brooks, BJ Britt Jr., Raven Goodwin, Richard Roundtree, Valarie Pettiford, Chike Okonkwo, and Michael Ealy.

I think that the show should be renewed. This black woman and the rest of the cast does a great job entertaining viewers. Why do BET want to cancel the show? It is ridiculous. I also agree without a doubt that Season 5 has to happen.

I was in pure SHOCK when I learned Being Mary Jane is being cancelled! What the hell?? This is a great show!!!! The storyline & the actors are so relatable & believable. There’s something in this show for every viewer. Never was there an episode that had me bored. My peers certainly agree. Empire is supposed to be a big deal. They can’t hold a candle to Being Mary Jane. This cancellation news is very disappointing.
