canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Mike & Molly: Billy Gardell, Melissa McCarthy React to Sitcom Cancellation

by Jessica Pena, December 14, 2015

Mike & Molly

Just this weekend, we reported that CBS had cancelled Mike & Molly after six seasons. Now, stars Melissa McCarthy and Billy Gardell have taken to Twitter in response to the news.

The sixth and final season of Mike & Molly premieres on January 6th.

Gardell, who plays Chicago police officer Mike Biggs, on the long-running CBS sitcom had this to say on Twitter:

Mike and Molly returns Jan 6, it will be our last episodes. There are 13 of them. Thank you everyone who supported us. 🙏🙏❤️❤️

— Billy Gardell (@BillyGardell) December 4, 2015

Meanwhile, McCarthy, who plays Biggs’ wife Molly Flynn, wrote on Twitter that she was “shocked and heartbroken” about the comedy’s cancellation:

I was shocked and heartbroken when @CBS canceled #MikeAndMolly. I would have shot this show for 50 more years. I’ll miss my 2nd family.

— Melissa McCarthy (@melissamccarthy) December 14, 2015

Ratings for the sitcom have dropped in the past few seasons. Though, the series still maintained an average of 8.44 million viewers for season five. The upcoming sixth season will be shortened, with only 13 episodes instead of a full 22.

What do you think? Are you a fan of Mike & Molly? Are you sad to see it cancelled?

I think new writers were needed. The players were still wonderful and I can think of at least ten other scenarios that were not explored. Not just Mike and Molly but the supporting actors as well. Sort of got off track with the “baby thing” and the death of Mikes partners mother (although this was not a game changer–just a distraction). Would have kept her as a teacher–maybe a charter school principal as they raised their family regardless of how they came into the family.

Mike and Molly is a great show for most ages unlike 2 broke girls and you can guess the other alike shows. It was nice to see a show thst represented the majority of families. Most Americans are overweight and struggle with the same issues that this show brings to the forfront. Not everyone is built like Beonce or Michael Strahan

Super bummed to hear m & m announced the last season !! Like most others comes as a shock and I hope they change their minds or they will continue again later on !! Honestly the big point of the show to me was these two less likely people to star in a sitcom did and were hilarious , had a beautiful relationship , and met each other in a very unlikely way . With that being said if the show chose to cancel due to McCarthy weight loss are you serious ? Isn’t that the whole point of 12… Read more »

I find it extremely sad that you are canceling such a funny show. . I will never believe you are canceling the show for any other reason than for the fact that Melissa McCarth lost weight and became healthy. What’s the matter, don’t you all have creative writers that could write a story line to include this? Mike and Molly was one of my favorite shows so it looks like I’m going to have to look for great shows on other networks. Your new show The McNeils looks disgusting and to me portrays all that is wrong with our society.… Read more »

You’ve done it before. Start Mike&Molly back this fall. Some of those new shows you’re going to put on won’t make it anyway.Mike&Molly is funny.Sometimes I get to laughing so hard I can’t breath. Take off Big Bang Theory its been on long enough.

They cancel good shows, after moving them all over the schedule so no one knows when they’re on and keep their cheap crap like survivor, amazing race and others.

Not sad at all! Melissa is a great comedian. However, Billy actually, lacks character for this role. Actually, they look poorly together on screen. The show looked like two fat people with no substantial value. The actually look like a spin off from another sitcom. Sorry, no love lost on this one!
