After being on the air for just three weeks, TNT’s new Rizzoli & Isles TV show has already been renewed for a second season.
Rizzoli & Isles follows tough detective Jane Rizzoli (Harmon) as she teams up with serious forensic pathologist Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander). Others in the cast include Bruce McGill, Lee Thompson Young, Lorraine Bracco, and Jordan Bridges.
The premiere garnered a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demo and 7.55 million total viewers. Rizzoli & Isles also set a record for the debut of a commercial-supported cable series. Week two’s demo number was steady at a 1.5 but viewership fell to 7.27 million. In week three, the demo fell to a 1.3 and viewership took a big drop, to 6.55 million.
Despite this week’s big tumble, TNT has decided to give Rizzoli & Isles a second season. The cable channel has ordered 13 episodes for season two and they’re expected to air sometime in 2011.
The 10 episodes of season one are expected to finish airing in late September.

Why would I be surprised they are renewing it? TNT renewed “Raising The Bar” – easily one of the largest pieces of human waste ever produced. R & I is awful. I wanted to LOVE this show, because I am a fan of the principles and some of the support cast as well. Nevertheless, the writers decided that the principles would be idiots who create most of the problems they encounter and then take silly approaches to resolving them. I initially felt the same as Dan (above) – there lacked a depth to the characters that I found off putting and some of the scenes played with an odd dynamic but after watching all 7 ( so far) of season one I am loving it more and more! The humour is great, the lovely chemistry with the leads and seeing powerful women on screen. Love it!!! I hope the ratings stay steady!

I’m still not sure of this program. It has a great cast but the story lines and dialogue are weak. almost not strong enough to encourage me to watch – almost. I think this show has a chance, but I think it was premature to sign for a second season. It has potential, but something is lacking.

I think the series is fabulous! In fact, it has prompted me to read the novels written by Tess Gerritsen on which the series is based. Great plot twists, great female characters, love the forensics component to solving the mysteries.
Oh my husband and I are so glad this show is going to continue. Thank youTNT you are fast becoming our favorite channel. the major channels have some pretty good shows, but your channel is rated above even them.
Rizzoli and Isles is great. Hopefully it will stay on the air for a very long time. Both of these actresses are exceptional in their own right but together they make a good team.
I enjoy this show and hope it will continue.

Honestly, I’m surprised they renewed it so soon. I didn’t see the premiere, but episodes 2 and 3 were weak.
YES I’m happy its been renewed. Excellent and top notch. Honestly I’m happy both of them found a new home, and it looks they could be there a while. Happy to hear that, smart choice TNT unlike not picking up Law & Order.
