Donny Deutsch is hanging it up. Deadline reports the MSNBC TV show Saturday Night Politics is ending after four months.
Launched earlier this year, the new talk show featured discussions about current events. Deutsch will continue to appear on Morning Joe and other MSNBC TV shows.
It’s not that surprising Saturday Night Politics is ending. The short-lived MSNBC series earned fairly low ratings, averaging only 101,000 viewers during its run, according to Deadline.
See Deutsch’s announcement below:
With summer coming to a close, so does my season run on MSNBC w/ @SNPonMSNBC. I’m beyond grateful for all of your help in making it @MSNBC ’s highest rated Saturday night program EVER! So surreal! I’ll see you all on @Morning_Joe @DeadlineWH, and across MSNBC very soon.

What do you think? Did you ever watch Saturday Night Politics? Would you have watched more?
Watched Saturday Night Politics religiously. Love Donnie Deusch. His commentary is always on point, very astute. I look forward to his guest spots on MSNBC.
This was one of my favorite Saturday night shows. I enjoyed the format and the diversity of opinions. Perhaps MSNBC wants me to watch their competitor CNN. I turn MSNBC off the minute the lock up or crime reality shows come on – I consider the format of those type of shows to be an insult to my intellect.
This was one of my favorite Saturday night shows. I like the format and I like the diversity of opinions. Very disappointed that MSNBC did not continue this. Perhaps they want me to watch CNN?!?!!
sad to see this happening,..really enjoyed this show
I live outside the US and looked forward to Saturday Night Politics on weekends keeping me informed and up to date, knowing that streaming the next MSNBC show wouldn’t come around till late Monday night/Tuesday morning since we’re 12 hours ahead. Donny’s show was entertaining and filled the bill. His stories were relevant, his guests challenging to his sometimes different perspectives, making the hour pass quickly and satisfactorily.
I am sorry to hear this. I looked forward to watching my taping of the show on sunday morning his branding expertise was brilliant. He said that instead of the word impeachment congress should start a trump criminal inquiry! Smart!!!
I loved the show. I am very sad it has been canceled. I love Donny’s insights. I look forward to seeing him on other MSNBC shows.
Excellent straight forward, down to earth politics program, pulling no punches. Donny Deutsch is excellent and I am very sorry to see the show being cancelled. The list of guests were great. Saturday evening at 8 PM in the summer is not the ideal time slot. Not many viewers at this time in the summer. DD deserved a better break. Hopefully MSNBC can fine a better time slot
Well, phooey! I’m really going to miss Donny D and his Wall. This show was Different! Interesting! Informed and diverse! I loved the directness and honesty. Fun and refreshing. Too bad someone doesn’t have the vision to see the niche as buildable!
We watched EVERY pisode. Donny is WONDERFUL and the show was relevant, intelligent and informative. We always appreciate Donny’s input on MSNBC and will miss him having his own platform
I enjoyed his show and his perspective and am sorry to see him go. It was nice to have some new programming on Saturday night instead of the usual reruns from Friday night. He always had a fun lineup of guests and asked questions outside the norm. Despite getting no advertising promotion from MSNBC and being bumped a couple of times due to breaking news, I think his viewership would have grown. Too bad they gave him such a short run.
Watched every episode and am sorry to see the show be cancelled.I respected Mr. Deutsch for standing by his friend Michael Cohen. I will definitely be watching for him on Morning Joe and Deadline:White House.
I watched every episode, enjoyed the format, and am sorry to see the show end. I disagree with PhilS regarding Mr Deutsch’s credibility. Many of us have friends that we care about who lose their way. Mr Deutsch can be a friend of Cohen’s and still see him clearly.
I watched it every week and loved it. I loved him on Morning Joe and will continue to.
I’m quite pleased to see this because sadly, Donny Deutsch destroyed his own credibility as a journalist when he owned up to being a friend of Michael Cohen and calling him a good man and therefore just cannot be watched.
I’m rather surprised that Mika and Joe have him on their show too based upon this lack o credibility
Deutsch is a savvy marketer and politically astute. He is well-connected, and knows all the players. He isn’t always right, but is smart and discerning.
I think the timing of his summer debut and pastiche, laundry-list format account for the cancellation. That, and the money-driven, short test that network suits allow new programs to attract viewers and gain traction. There are far worse programs on…like bloviating interrupter Chris Matthews.
