canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Sun Records: Season One Ratings

Published: May 5, 2017

Sun Records TV show on CMT: ratings (cancel or season 2?)There have been many music-related TV drama series throughout the years. Some have done well but many others have been cancelled. How will CMT’s new Sun Records TV show perform in the ratings? Will it be renewed for a second season or, will it be dropped instead? Stay tuned.

Airing on the CMT cable channel, Sun Records stars Chad Michael Murray, Billy Gardell, Drake Milligan, Kevin Fonteyne, Christian Lees, Jonah Lees, Trevor Donovan, Keir O’Donnell, Jennifer Holland, Margaret Anne Florence, and Kerry D. Holliday. In the show, Sam Phillips (Murray) shepherds young musicians Johnny Cash (Fonteyne), Elvis Presley (Milligan), Carl Perkins (Dustin Ingram) and Jerry Lee Lewis (Christian Lees). These up-and-coming white musicians combine hillbilly country music, with the ’50s R&B sound of African American artists like Ike Turner (Holliday), B.B. King (Castro Coleman), Muddy Waters, and Fats Domino.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

5/5 Update: While not cancelled, CMT has confirmed there will be no season two of Sun Records. Details here.

Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.

Note: The premiere was simulcast Nick-at-Nite (0.15 demo and 544,000) and TV Land (0.08 demo with 453,000).

How are your shows doing in the ratings? Check the current rankings:
A&E | ABC | AMC | Bravo | CBS | CMT | The CW | FOX | Freeform | FX | FXX
Hallmark | HBO | History | MTV | NBC | OWN | Showtime | Starz | Syfy | TBS
TNT | TV Land | USA Network | WGN America

What do you think? Do you like the Sun Records TV show? Do you think CMT should have cancelled or renewed it for a second season?

Love Sun Records , it gives some historical insight of the beginning of Rock n Roll. Without shows like this & movies like Cadillac Records, the younger generation has no sense to the roots of their music.
Love both of these shows & movie. We need more Sun Records.

We love this show. We would like to know why ratings are always geared to those under 50? Most young people use Netflix or so.ethong similar.

I was skeptical at first but then I got hooked. I can’t help shedding a few happy tears while watching this show. I was a teen when Elvis and Jerry Lee were just beginning and have many fond memories of their music. It’s interesting to see how the music business struggles to bring on new talent and how the stars that we love got their start. I’m glad the show has not been cancelled. Please continue telling this fantastic story on CMT. I’m also a fan of NASHVILLE. Thanks for keeping it going. These two shows are back to back… Read more »

It was so full of inaccuracies it was not worth watching. Elvis was a blond when he was young and did not have a motorcycle til he started making money. Marion Keisker was not as portrayed…I knew her personally.
I quit watching when it got ridiculous.
Don’t bother bringing it back.
