canceled TV shows - TV Series Finale

The Cape: Watch the Season (Series?) Finale Online

Published: March 11, 2011

The Cape finaleAs promised, NBC has released the 10th and probably last episode of The Cape as an “online exclusive.”

The Cape follows Vince Faraday (David Lyons), an honest cop who finds himself framed for a series of murders and presumed dead. Fueled by a desire to reunite with his family (Jennifer Ferrin and Ryan Wynott) and to battle the criminal forces that have overtaken their city, Vince becomes “The Cape” — a vigilante and his son’s favorite comic book superhero. Others in the cast include James Frain, Keith David, Summer Glau, Dorian Missick, Martin Klebba, and Vinnie Jones.

The NBC series struggled to get good ratings and is one of the lowest-rated scripted serieson the network. Though it hasn’t been officially cancelled yet, The Cape is very unlikely to be renewed for a second season. The series’ showrunner has already moved on.

On the positive side, though the show is off the air, NBC has released the last produced episode online. It’s called “Endgame” and the network describes it this way:

THE CAPE AND VINCE FARRADAY’S WORLDS COLLIDE AND HARD TRUTHS ARE REVEALED — Police Chief Marty Voyt (Dorian Missick) lands behind bars, in the hands of ARK Corporation, fearing he may receive the same fate as Vince (David Lyons). Attempting to learn more about Vince’s disappearance, Dana (Jennifer Ferrin) takes on Marty’s case, and the impervious ARK Corporation, only to discover secrets of betrayal. The Cape’s double identity becomes blurred when Max (Keith David) and the carnival of crime attempt to protect Dana, Marty and his family.

What do you think? Does this satisfy you? Is this a good way to end the series? Why do you think The Cape didn’t catch on?

I think the pilot 2 parter and the next 2 episodes kind of rehashing those plots killed it. The show had been spot on from Dice on. I will miss The Cape. It reminded me of the adventure TV from the 90’s ; Mantis, Viper, f/x. I don’t know, but Cape and No Ordinary Family are the first non-USA Network (Burn Notice, White Collar, In Plain Sight) shows I committed to getting involved in in years, and this is why. When I like it, it goes away. Saddest of all, it means one more time slot for a show about… Read more »

I really liked this show alot it was a show I could get into and it is a show that you don’t have to worry about kids watching ether because it doesn’t have all the %**#@@!!^!! words in it that some shows have now days it is not boring and it does not have violence like some shows have now days too many shows have either violence or sex just to get you into the show and get you interested in the show so you will watch the show well after what they replaced its time slot with for now… Read more »

I hated the ending. You should at least let him get back with his family.
Reminds me why I don’t watch this channel. Stupid way to end it!
The bad guy won and the good guy got no satisfaction and neither did I.

NBC murdered this show, and then didn’t even have the decency to give it a decent burial. An online only finale – which is going to be the final episode ever of this show (people have been crying for it to be picked up by SyFy or some other network, but that’s simply not going to happen). And they couldn’t even bring the family back together. Couldn’t bring Chess to justice. Instead they wasted about 80 percent of the show’s time on plot points that are all absolutely pointless now and offered very little to the story.

I will really miss this show.
I do not think it was promoted enough.
The plot is awesome…like a modern day Batman.
I think to many TV execs keep pushing animated shows but they need to remember
that Baby Boomers still relish the old time comics and this show really gives the feel of that.
Sooooooooo….promote the show more and keep it.
Who the hell wants/needs another “reality ” show???
They all suck the most!!!
BAM

I personally liked the cape… yeah it was dumb but it’s the fun kind of dumb that I can get behind. I don’t always need gritty and serious tones , I could really get behind The Cape’s more light-hearted nature. I hope End Game isn’t the end of The Cape because it wasn’t particularly satisfying; people take things way to seriously The Cape isn’t realistic but TV is supposed to be an escape from reality to a window to it.

Just end it. Let him go home. Really why drag it out. Its not supposed to be a season cliff hanger. That’s why it was canceled in the first place. Allot of people liked this show. But not enough apparently to keep the show going. Just end it on a happy note. In the real world he would reveal himself to his wife and kid. And leave town. He wouldn’t be waiting to see if they renew his life for another season. Really dumb ending. Good show bad writers. Maybe they should can the writers not the show.

I think the show was a bit too over the top to attract a serious audience, many instances of super human abilities, ridiculous stunts, and obvious plot holes make it a bit too much to swallow even for younger viewers which makes one wonder who they were trying to target this too.
