It looks like The Closer is going to last a little bit longer. Last year it was announced that the most successful drama on cable was ending after seven seasons, per the request of star Kyra Sedgwick. Season seven was to be made up of 15 installments that would air over the summer. Last week, we reported that there were rumblings about finding a way to keep the show going.
Now, TNT has ordered six additional episodes of the series which will pave the way for a spin-off with others from the Closer cast. According to EW, 10 episodes of The Closer will air over the summer. Another five will air next winter and then six more will run next summer. Those last six installments will serve as a farewell to Sedgwick’s Brenda Leigh Johnson and possibly set up another character as the focus for a spin-off.
Right now, its looking like the new show will be called Major Crimes. It’ll likely focus on the behind-the-scenes deal-making that keeps some of the most dangerous criminals off death row. EW reports that these kinds of deals will play a big role in the final episodes and will end up being the reason for Brenda leaving.

VERY glad there are more episodes coming! I love this show. Cameo by Kevin Bacon PLEASE…and bring back Sosie Bacon!! Love this show….I hope the spin-off has cameo’s of Kyra. Love her.
I didn’t know she wanted to leave the show. I love this show and all its characters. I hate to see it go.
When will the last episodes air?
I have to see my “Closer”. Its refreshing to see and hear the comments and the storyline of the show. Brenda Lee is wonderful. She has a wonderful crew behind her and each one could probably spinoff to a series but- why break up the perfect group. Keep it on and keep us happy.
If the series is ending, get if over with more quickly. Don’t drag it out. If the new spin-off starred Fritz, that would be worth watching!
We are true fans of the Closer, every episode! I hope they can pull off a Spin-off and keep most of the cast. We really enjoy Lt. Provenza and Lt Flynn’s friendship. Love Julio and Lt. Tao. Hope they keep Chief Pope too. I guess if we lose Brenda we lose Frizti? Hope they keep the writers and continue with great shows! This cast deserves to go on, Hollywood usually casts them aside when the show is over. Now days it’s great to have a job. Forgot to mention we love Robert Gossett too.
I agree with Cupcake! Leave everything pretty much as is and figure out a way to work around Brenda or phase someone else in~~as long as it is NOT Capt. Rador. I don’t know if I like the premise of the new show as I am not sure how it would work. I just know that I enjoy the crew as much, if not more than Brenda and want to see them continue!!!
I agree with Craig, I love the Closer and don’t want to see it end. The whole cast is perfect. I am not sure I understand the spin off idea ; It sounds like the spin off is like the Closer, so whats the point? I think Ms Sedgwick is a fantastic actress and would love to see her on a regular basis. Would like to hear more about the new series before I dissmiss it all together. Great show. Great acting. Great to leave on an up note. I am concerned that the possible spinoff would take a one-sided view about capital crimes and the convicted prisoners off death row. It should look at it from 2 points of view in my opinion. I would love to see why one side wants to keep someone on death row and the other not, could be very compelling. I could see it splitting the characters apart and seeing how the interact with the cases. Again, great show!
Do not cancel this show I now here they have canceled Head case, you know there aren’t that many comedic sitcoms on television these days The Closer combines so many aspects of a television show my Husband and myself love this show , us must be honest I don’t watch the show on television because I simply hate commercials and hate waiting till the next week for the next episode so I wait patiently for it to come out on DVD and I buy it right away. WHAT A SHAME IT HAS TO END, BUT ALL GOOD THINGS DO. UNFORTUNETLY IT SEEMS THAT IT WILL BE BECAUSE OF THE POLITICS BETWEEN LAWYERS AND THE SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS CRMINALS. I WILL THOROUGHLY ENJOY THE REMAINING EPISODES BUT HAVE NO INTEREST IN THE SPIN OFF, IT JUST SOUNDS IRRITATING AND SOMETHING THAT WILL MAKE ME ANGRY TO SEE THE CRIMINAL GET OFF OR LIGHTER SENTENCES.
Delighted to see more episodes of The Closer but sad to see it end. The spin-off does not interest me.
I am glad there are some additional episodes. I am not excited that the remaining episodes will be strung out over more than a year. I don’t have any real interest in the Major Crimes spinoff right now. The last thing I am interested in watching is a show that revolves around the politics related to the deals cut by major criminals and lawyers. Especially, if it is the kind of thing that makes Brenda Lee leave the department.
I love all the characters on The Closer so I am sure that a spin-off will be great! I am looking forward to it.
