The Nate Berkus Show: Cancelled Show Coming to OWN (Sort of)

by Trevor Kimball, September 5, 2012

Nate Berkus Show canceledWhen The Nate Berkus Show was cancelled earlier this year, some thought that Berkus’ old friend Oprah Winfrey should bring his TV series over to the OWN channel. Well, that’s exactly what’s happened.

Unfortunately, OWN has merely picked up the existing two seasons of Nate Berkus and won’t be producing any new installments. Though local stations can continue to air the Berkus show until September 7th, many have already pulled it off the air.

OWN has also purchased the rights to show the first five seasons of Rachael Ray, a series that continues to run in daytime.

Here’s the press release:

OWN: OPRAH WINFREY NETWORK ACQUIRES EXCLUSIVE CABLE RIGHTS TO “RACHAEL RAY” AND “THE NATE BERKUS SHOW”

Series To Air Back-to-Back Weekdays Beginning Monday, September 10

Los Angeles, CA – OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network has acquired the exclusive cable rights to “Rachael Ray” from CBS Television Distribution and “The Nate Berkus Show” from Harpo Studios. Two episodes of each show will air back-to-back weekdays beginning Monday, September 10 with “Rachael Ray” from 9 – 11 a.m. ET/PT and “Nate Berkus” from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. ET/PT.

OWN will air many of the most memorable episodes of “Rachael Ray” from its first five seasons and from seasons one and two of “Nate Berkus.”

“Rachael and Nate are a natural fit for OWN’s expanding daytime programming lineup,” said Erik Logan, president, OWN. “It will be great to have Rachael’s energy and Nate’s upbeat presence on our air.”

ABOUT ‘RACHAEL RAY’

The multiple Emmy Award-winning syndicated talk show is among the top-ranked daytime programs on television. Now in the seventh season of her namesake series, Rachael Ray continues to bring her warmth and no-fuss approach to life into the homes of millions with her signature quick meals, improvised entertaining, celebrity surprises, provocative topical discussions, cutting-edge musical performances and groundbreaking features. Credited with getting America back in the kitchen with her easy approach to cooking, Rachael takes the same philosophy-finding simple solutions to everyday problems-beyond the kitchen into all aspects of the show. In addition to winning the Outstanding Talk Show-Entertainment Emmy in 2008 and 2009, “Rachael Ray” was nominated for three Daytime Emmys in its fourth season and two in its fifth. “Rachael Ray” is distributed and produced by CBS Television Distribution in association with Harpo Studios, Scripps Networks and Watch Entertainment.

ABOUT ‘THE NATE BERKUS SHOW’

Hosted by Nate Berkus, design expert, New York Times best-selling author and a regular contributor to “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” the series explores a broad range of lifestyle subjects providing take-away information and inspiration that makes a real difference in viewers’ daily lives. Relaxed, unpretentious and accessible, Nate brings his passion for design and life to an upbeat and entertaining hour filled with a vast array of topics, from stories of personal transformation to headline-making personalities to design tips and secrets, all explored through Nate’s distinctive filter. The series is distributed by Harpo Studios.

About OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network

A joint venture between Harpo, Inc. and Discovery Communications, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network is a multi-platform media company designed to entertain, inform and inspire people to live their best lives. OWN debuted on January 1, 2011 on what was the Discovery Health Channel and is in approximately 85 million homes. The venture also includes the award-winning digital platform, Oprah.com.

What do you think? Are you happy that you’ll be able to continue to be able to watch the two seasons of Nate Berkus on OWN?

I am very sad that good programs like Nate and Rachael Ray are going to cable. Not everyone has or can afford cable and still use antenna t.v. (with a converter box). There are many Americans that are just getting by on a very little income by no fault of there own (lay-offs, health reasons, divorce etc.). Please Oprah give us poor people a break. Please help Nate Berkus and Rachael Ray stay on antenna t.v.

I think it is terrible that Oprah is starting to buy the rights for other shows and doesn’t
think about the people who can’t afford to buy cable or extra shows. She use to be compassionate for others. I am on a fixed income of social secuirty, have worked hard
all my life didn’t get to go to college no grants or free ride–I supported my children all by
myself. The is a lot of people who sometimes can’t afford their medication let alone purchase own.

I am shocked that The Nate Berkus show is off the air!! It is a wonderful show and Nate is such a pleasant personality. I never missed an episode and as a result, my home is oh, so cute! I loved all the creative ideas, especially House Proud. Please bring it back to HGTV.

I’m shocked! I thought the show was delightful and very educational. Do we really need more talk shows??? Hopefully they will bring the show back and do away with a couple talk shows and Judge So-n-So shows.

I don’t watch tv very often during the day but the one show I adored the most was the Nate Berkus show. I hope that someone will reliance what a refreshing up beat show it was. There is so much on tv about negative things Nate Berkus actually was happy and found ways to help us help ourselves with not a lot of money make our homes look like we did, along with the savings people got a sense of accomplishment.

I was a devoted fan of the Nate Berkus show, if i couldn’t be home to watch it i wouldn’t forget to set my dvr to record, i still have so many episodes saved and continue to watch them. I think it’s a huge shame to do away with a show (Nate Berkus Show) that offered people like me to watch someone like Nate sharing his extreme talent (as well as his good looks, wink), I think that Nate is very talented and he has such a genuine soul, I will truly miss your show Nate!! With all the trash… Read more »
