Despite their differences, Oscar and Felix are sticking together — and CBS is sticking with their show. The network has renewed The Odd Couple for a second season.
On this version of The Odd Couple, endearing slob Oscar Madison (Matthew Perry) is a sports-writer and uptight neat freak Felix Unger (Thomas Lennon) is a photographer. They’re two former college buddies who become unlikely roommates after the demise of their marriages. Other castmembers are Lindsay Sloane, Wendell Pierce, and Yvette Nicole Brown.
The series had a great launch in February (thanks in part to the series finale of Two and a Half Men) with a 3.08 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 13.573 million viewers. However, the ratings saw a big drop in week two and have been dwindling downward ever since.
Last week’s episode hit a new series low of a 1.5 demo rating with 7.028 million. That’s hardly a positive sign for the future. Still, CBS renewed it anyway. Perhaps they’re hoping that the series just needs a little more time to catch on. If it doesn’t, perhaps we’ll see a repeat of what happened to The Millers earlier this season — the series was cancelled and dropped from the schedule midway into its second season. Regardless, fans of the show will have more episodes to watch.
What do you think? Do you like The Odd Couple? Do you think CBS made the right decision in renewing it or should they have cancelled it instead?
