TV show description:
A TV show adaptation of the Philipp Meyer novel of the same name, The Son is a Texas period drama that follows three generations of the McCullough family. The series features the metamorphosis of Eli McCullough (Brosnan).
The family patriarch, Eli, changes over the years from an affable innocent into a conniving killer. After losing everything on the wild frontier, Eli resolves to build a lasting ranching and oil dynasty and, in time, grows exceedingly wealthy.
Eli’s eldest son Pete (Garrett) has always labored in dear old dad’s shadow. He longs to be his own man and yet still make his father proud.
Pete’s headstrong daughter Jeannie (Lucas) worships her grandfather. Regardless of the times, and the fact that she’s living in a man’s world, Jeannie has no intention of living only for marriage and motherhood.
Eli is a brutal man, particularly in dealing with his rival, Spanish neighbor Pedro Garcia (Bardem). In pursuit of power, Eli sparks events reaping ramifications which ripple throughout the generations.
In flashbacks, the drama also tells the story of young Eli (Lofland) and Comanche war chief Toshaway (McClarnon), who served as his father figure. Throughout, The Son delves into the rise of the McCullough family empire.
Series Finale:
Episode #20 — Legend
Young Eli is forced into a life-changing decision in 1852. In 1916, Eli wages a final war with Standard Oil, forcing a confrontation with Pete.
First aired: June 29, 2019.
What do you think? Do you like the The Son TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a third season?
I love the show. Looking forward to a 2nd season. One of the best, and most unusual epics in years.
My husband & I both like this show. We are waiting for the next season to start. We want to know what happened to Pete & Maria. We want to know about Phineas and all the others involved in this drama.
I did like the show and am waiting for more episodes!
I enjoyed the show. I like westerns and it was great to see one that was current and not reruns. Please keep it on the air.
I was very much enjoying the series (Season 1). Pierce Brosnen was fabulous! Really, the whole cast was good and the characters believable. The setting was well done and the story line seemed historically based. But, then, the gay bar in Austin, Texas in the 1800’s? That one through me for a loop! I understand that homosexuality is being systematically placed in most tv shows, but this one was too much of a reach! I don’t think I will continue with the remainder of the season. I just need some vestige of reality; and, this ruined it for me.
This series is one oft the best series dipicting life in Texas from the late 1840’s to the early years of finding oil.
All you have to do today is to drive through east, central, and west Texas to see why the rich ranchers went from cattle to drilling for oil. Greed drove them to do anything to get wealthy, including violence.
I say the series is great, and I hope the series continues.
Renew please. Great to see a western. The entire cast is excellent. Best show since Hell on Wheels. Whole family loves it
