American Idol is being brought back by a new network, and one former executive producer is not too sure this is the right time to bring the series back. In fact, Nigel Lythgoe thinks it is too soon for a revival.
He said that to Variety. He worked on Idol during its early days at FOX. The series is now headed to ABC, and they have some ideas about how to handle the show – including auditions at their theme parks instead of around the country.
He said the following:
“They got their wish, but it feels a little too soon to bring it back. I’m delighted for them if they bring it back, and I’m looking forward to seeing it again. Hopefully they find some new angles for Idol.”
It was not ratings that caused the show’s cancellation, according to Lythgoe. It was the cost of the show that was a major factor.
