American Idol started its three-night finale tonight, but this will not be the final season of American Idol. Well, it might be in its current format.
Simon Fuller, the man that created the series, already has plans to revive the competition series. The Hollywood Reporter revealed his plans to revive the series in a new interview. He said the following:
“There will no doubt be another format or refinement or elevation of the format. Now I can actually revamp it and come up with a new version. And we can look back on 15 seasons and think of some legitimate ways to allow people to enjoy them again, maybe adding another dimension to it.”
Fuller also revealed that the next incarnation of American Idol will take into account the digital technology now available with streaming services like Netflix and Hulu available. He said that he plans to make American Idol more “interactive” and “a lot more immersive.”
He did not reveal when he will bring back American Idol in its new format, but it sounds like it will happen after a break.
