Bittersweet news for BattleBots fans. It seems ABC has cancelled BattleBots after two seasons, but all 16 episodes of the TV show are coming to the Science Channel.
In 2015, ABC revived the competition show, which pits homemade robots against each other. The show previously aired on Comedy Central but was cancelled after five seasons in 2002.
Now, it looks like BattleBots has been axed once again. Recently, ABC removed the show from its list of current reality programming—a sure sign the show has been cancelled. However, fans lookin’ for a fix will be able to see both seasons of the revived series on Science Channel beginning July 12th at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

(New York) – Let the robot shrapnel fly. Science Channel has licensed the off-network cable rights to air 16 episodes of ABC’s epic robot-fighting series BattleBots. BattleBots features the biggest, baddest, strongest, and fastest next-generation robots as they duke it out to become champions of an intense, fast-paced single elimination tournament. BattleBots premieres Wednesday, July 12 at 10pm ET/PT on Science Channel.
Each robot rumble match consists of two robots competing in a single three-minute bout in which the goal is to destroy or disable their opponent. If there is no knockout during the three-minute battle, the panel of judges will declare a victor to move on in the tournament.
Each episode of BattleBots highlights the design and build of each robot, bot builder backstories, and their pursuit of the BattleBot championship. With only one weight class, homemade robots of many varieties with a huge variety of deadly weapons go head-to-head, all captured by state-of-the-art onboard technology and cameras to enhance viewing and provide combat analytics.
BattleBots is hosted by ESPN’S Samantha Ponder. She is joined for the play-by-play by Chris Rose of MLB Network and NFL Network, color-commentary is provided by ex-MMA fighter Kenny Florian, Alison Haislip (G4’s Attack of the Show) is the sideline reporter and Faruq Tauheed is ring announcer. Judging the battles are former BattleBots competitor and special effects artist Fon Davis, the face of “Nerdist” Jessica Chobot and a special guest judge for each round of the competition.
BattleBots is a reimagined take on the killer robot combat sport from Whalerock Industries and the creators of the original BattleBots franchise, Ed Roski and Greg Munson. Executive producers are Lloyd Braun, Chris Cowan, Edward P. Roski (Trey), Greg Munson and Aaron Catling.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of BattleBots? Are you sad ABC has cancelled the show?
I’m so sad about this 🙁 We have Robot Wars here in the UK, but we just don’t do sporting spectacle like you do in the US. Can’t we crowd fund it back onto the air, or something??
It goes to show that people are not really interested in advancing science for America’s youth and people would rather see mind numbing shows like Duck Dynasty.
So you blame the show being cancelled on conservatives? Not sure why you said Duck Dynasty. That’s just a show for conservatives to see prayer and patriotism mixed with a good time dealing with life. Nothing wrong with that. I love watching battle bots as well. Very cool seeing the machine destroy each other.
This was a fantastic science show that my girls LOVED watching. It’s truly a shame that it was cancelled. Maybe the Science Channel will see the benefit of picking it up for season 3.
My favorite show so mad its canceled!!!!!!!
This was a great family show and I’m sad to see it cancelled 🙁

I liked battlebots, it was fun to watch and fascinating to see what people could engineer. It deserved another season. Maybe the science channel will have the balls to give this not life.
Devastated to hear that ABC did not pick it up. I don’t understand it it’s great TV. Love watching the show with my five year old son who is no doubt going to be a mechanical engineer. We live in the heart of Silicon Valley and the show is right up our alley. Good clean family fun. I really hope the Science Channel does a third season. Would even be happier if they filmed it in Vallejo like they did other seasons. Maybe try contacting Science Channel and ask what they woumd need to see to be inspired to have… Read more »
Well, star treks journey had a similar beginning. I suspect battle bots will smash it’s way to the top of the heap eventually too. Until then there’s the internet.
Really sad that ABC let this gem go. Note that “Robot Wars” is still going strong in the UK.
I’ve been waiting a long time to see the next season, I am really saddened by the cancellation of the show!
They need to bring this back! I love battlebots!!!
I watched Battlebots with my 4 yr old grandson. It was a very special time for us to watch a show we both enjoyed. We are currently watching the repeats but I have to record them and watch at an earlier time as 9 pm is past his bedtime. Very upset that ABC cancelled the show. Too bad ABC opted out from airing a quality family program that was educational as well. My grandson was fascinated by the technology involved in robotics. Hope someone picks up a new season. Everyone involved in the programming / production of Battlebots did a… Read more »
I just started watching BattleBots and I’m totally hooked! It is great to see all the creativity in the design choices in terms of which weapons and armor, one vs. multiple bots, and tactics/strategy. I’m so sad to learn that I’m watching repeats and that it has been cancelled. The Science Channel needs to do more than air ABCs past two seasons and pick up the show for new seasons!
Pleeze more battlebots. I’m addicted
