A dysfunctional family sitcom, the Casual TV show centers on Alex Cole (Dewey), founder of Snooger.com, an online dating site, his sister, therapist Valerie Meyers (Watkins), and her teenaged daughter, Laura (Barr).
After Valerie’s husband, Drew (Orth), leaves her for a younger woman, she and Laura move in with Alex, who has been struggling with depression. Together, they try to help each other navigate modern dating, both online and off.
Although Valerie and Alex are close, their relationship can be unhealthy. When Valerie’s trying to get over the breakup of her marriage, Alex sets her up on a date, using his website, but it goes down in flames. Later, he encourages her to have a one night stand, then insists the man, Leon (Hatendi), stay for breakfast. The two soon form a friendship.
Rounding out the circle are Valerie’s assistant, Leia (Berman), her fellow therapist Jennifer (Aselton), and Dawn (Conroy) and Charles (Melamed) Cole, Alex and Valerie’s parents.
