Last season, CBS introduced only eight new shows during the regular season. They cancelled three and renewed five of them. How will their new programming do in the ratings this time around? Stay tuned.
CBS shows this season (so far): 2 Broke Girls, 48 Hours, 60 Minutes, The Amazing Race, American Gothic, Angel From Hell, The Big Bang Theory, Big Brother, Blue Bloods, BrainDead, Code Black, Criminal Minds, CSI: Cyber, Elementary, The Good Wife, Hawaii Five-0, Life In Pieces, Limitless, Madam Secretary, Mike & Molly, Mom, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, The Odd Couple, Person of Interest, Rush Hour, Scorpion, Supergirl, Survivor, Two Broke Girls, Undercover Boss, and Zoo.
There’s lots of data that CBS execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing so far.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
First time comment: I like Madame Secretary
I like it too. It is a smart show.
Either lower the volume or get rid of the dumb background music in scorpion and hawaii five-O
I can’t believe they are going to cancel Code Black but keep ridiculous sit coms. Thanks heavens we will have Net Flix to watch when they take off all the old shows
I can’t believe that Code Black might be canceled. It is such a good show. Who in the world makes these stupid decisions. Some of the it cons are so bad but they seem to get renewed. Oh, well, thank heavens for Net Flix.
iIt would be DEEPLY APPRECIATED IF CBS WOULD GREATLY LOWER THE BACKGROUND MUSIC THAT PREVENTS A VIEWER FROM BEING ABLE TO HEAR THE DIALOGUE BEING SPOKEN THE ON NCIS TV SHOW, regardless of how high one turns up the volume!!!
I so agree. On all their shows . Its ridiculous all we hear is music or background noise .
I wish all music would stop with TV programs. Why is CBS taking off a good show like Code Black, when you have so many bad shows that you keep renewing very bad shows that eventually you drop because of bad viewing.
NCIS, Los Angels I watch both shows and can’t wait until next week to see the next episode
Hawaii five o is the show, I am as excited to watch each new show as the 1st show!
Bull crap they got rid of Mike & Molly & Blood & Oil always the great shows get the boot to keep all this stupid reality crap and zombie crap. pisses me off!!!
How can you show ratings for Mike and Molly when the new season has just started as of yesterday?
I think the payed online subscription is a lousy idea and is hurting CBS across all programming, but particularly the serialized and late night shows.
So disappointed that the creators of two broke girls felt that the couple joking about raping each other in their sleep was appropriate. Rape is rape. It is truly devestating and no joking matter.
this is one show along with , Life IN Pieces , Angel from Hell I wish would just get off my screen . We cant stand these shows .We turn them off and then turn back on when its over .
I am so happy that CBS has brought Supergirl to TV and the choice of Melissa Benoist as Supergirl was a great choice . When Melissa appears in her Supergirl customs she really looks the part and you can believe she really is Supergirl. I hope that she is around for awhile cause I really look forward to watching Supergirl each week and each episode gets better and better My only wish/hope is she crosses over with the Flash and Arrow. Image the viewers and ratings you would get by adding their fans to her show. One more thing the… Read more »
I really think Elementary should be on few more years need more fans.
Thats what u get for cancelling stalker!
Looks as if TV viewing, across the board, is dropping. So are ratings a fair judgement nowadays?
Yes, because people have different outlets to watch tv shows now that are probably not factored in these TV ratings – itunes, amazon, hulu, etc. Add in streaming on the network’s website and VOD. Not sure if the live+3 and live+7 data is factored in the above ratings too.
