Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
If they were going to cancel the show, and yes, you knew before the last episode, then they should have ended it differently.
No it should not have been cancelled. I was very upset. All things take a slump but they come back. I loved the show.
I was sad & disappointed and felt like I was left hanging at the end of season 3. I would have like to see Olivia & Paul end up together and Alex & Jack together
I will miss the show
Would have been nice to have the stories have closure instead of just dropped off. Sorry to see such an endearing show end.
Very sad to hear Cdear Cove has been cancel
Well, I guess I’m off to buy the books. I feel very much like everyone else….very disappointed with Hallmark.
Just finished watching Season 3 on Netflix, and now I’m left with many unanswered questions! So bummed! I agree with Mary on the Feb. 7th post — they should at least do a movie in order to finish up story lines and answer all our questions!! I will miss all these characters!
I just watched “Cedar Cove” on Netflix and I LOVED the show! All of the actors did a great job and the stories were compelling and well done. I only have one question. HOW COULD HALLMARK not do a season 4 or at least a movie to tie up all the loose ends? This was a terrible way to leave us fans. I absolutely LOVE the Hallmark Channel and I am a loyal Hallmark enthusiast, but seriously they need to rectify this for the fans. Okay, I have one more question… why do such terrible shows remain on the air… Read more »
This is devastating news. I am so sorry to read Cedar Cove has been cancelled.
There should be a new season of Cedar Cove. Love the show.
Barbara, thanks for that positive information, I will read the books just to experience some of the joy and heartfelt moments I received by watching the shows. Doesn’t look like Hallmark intends to do anything to appease the viewership. They have allowed us to drone on and on in these replies to no avail.
I feel like I just got scammed bought and watched all the seasons and went buy the 4th season and learned it got cancelled without a good ending.
For those who will miss the series, all I can say is, “read the books”. They are great. The series started off pretty close to the books, but in my opinion, began to deviate too much and became more like a soap opera. The spoiled the beauty of the original stories. As I said, read the books, you will love them.
Sorry to see typical tv. Cedar Cove, like so many other shows with value is lost for those who want to be entertained with decency. The good never has enormous following. It’s the road less traveled thing. I guess that’s why the horrible and unless shows continue to “win”.
I’m hopeful that someone will stand one day for value and not continue to fall for sensationalism/reality tv that makes it seem like everyone in America is an airhead.
I am so disappointed that Cedar Cove won’t be returning. It was a wonderful escape from the tensions of this crazy world. I will sorely miss it.Why? You certainly have other shows that should have been cancelled before this one.
