Community: Dan Harmon Says Movie "Will Certainly Happen" - canceled TV shows

“Six seasons and a movie,” will not remain only half-fulfilled. Creator Dan Harmon says a Community movie will happen. He is just waiting for the right time to pen a feature sequel to the much loved and oft-cancelled sitcom. Watch his interview on Larry King Now, below. The Community TV show cast includes Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Ken Jeong, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Jim Rash. Chevy Chase left the show after the fourth season but guested in season five. Donald Glover exited after the fifth season.

Harmon tells King, “It’s difficult, because if I pull out a typewriter right now and write a Community movie just for my own heart and mind, then I have to go through the heartbreak and agony of finding out which of the people are gonna show up to make it. On the other hand, if I wait for everyone to line up and say, ‘We’re all out of work and ready to do a Community movie’, well, I guess that’s a bad idea too.”

Harmon ran Community from its fall 2009 NBC premiere, through the first three seasons, before being replaced by David Guarascio and Moses Port. Following a less than satisfactory season four, Sony Pictures Television brought Harmon back, for the fifth season, after which NBC cancelled the single-cam comedy.

Yahoo! Screen renewed Community for season six, but later named the pick-up as one of the reasons the online company’s original programming venture failed.

After discussing Harmon’s sometimes tumultuous tenure on Community, King revisited the topic of sequel, asking, “So it would or it wouldn’t be a movie?”

Harmon said, “I mean it will make a great movie. It’ll happen. […] It will certainly happen.” Harmon added his only regrets regarding the sitcom revolve around his own lack of experience at the time.
