It’s a dark time for fans of Dark Matter. Deadline reports Syfy has cancelled the TV show after three seasons.
The sci-fi drama follows the crew of a derelict spaceship who awake with no memory and who must work together to survive a threatening voyage charged with vengeance, betrayal, and plenty of secrets. The cast includes Marc Bendavid, Melissa O’Neil, Anthony Lemke, Alex Mallari Jr, Jodelle Ferland, Roger Cross, and Zoie Palmer.
Ratings for Dark Matter have been low for some time. Overall, season three averaged a .15 rating in the 18-49 demo and only 614,000 viewers, making it one of Syfy‘s lower-rated TV shows for the 2016-2017 season.
On his blog, co-creator Joseph Mallozzi confirmed the show’s cancellation and thanked the fans, cast, and crew:
It is with great sadness that I confirm the news. Syfy has cancelled Dark Matter after three seasons.
To say that I’m incredibly disappointed would be an understatement.
I’ll save my comments and field your questions in a future blog entry. For today, I just want to extend a heartfelt thanks to my amazing crew, my wonderful cast, and to all of you, our incredible fans.
You all deserved better.”

I can’t imagine why dark matter was cancelled, one of bank favorite shows, if anything killjoy should be cancelled I watched it of and on and it still is kind of lame
What happened to “it’s a fan thing”, SYFY’s motto? It’s a great show with good viewer numbers. How can anyone watch any new show on SYFY know it will probably be cancelled early? I hate the stupid SYFY channel!
How can u end dark matter the way you did????I thought you ended stargate universe terribly but you did even worse with dark matter !!!smh you left it wide open crew scattered ?? I’m so disappointed about this but it’s typical SYFY they always end good shows!
I think they did not give the show a real chance, How many more demon and zombie shows are we going to see? The same thing happen to Star Trek, But hope we do not have to wait 20 years before some one brings it back, we lost Star Gate, because of studio politics! The invasion just started and we are left in the blind! Bring it back to at least end it right!
Killjoys is apparently ending but SYFY is giving it 2 more seasons to wrap up. Could have done that for Dark Matter. D.A.M.

I actually really enjoy Wynonna Earp 🙂 But after the cancellation of Dark Matter I have NO faith it will get a fourth season.
Damn right we deserved better! We all did, including the cast. Left us on a cliffhanger and everything! How could SyFy treat the fans so poorly? LOVE this show, it needs a conclusion!
You guys cancelled the wrong show, Dark Matter is such a better show than KillJoys you should have cancelled that and renewed DarkMatter. We love the crew of the Raza and this show just gets better and better and as for KillJoys me and mom have stopped watching it because it was too dark and too sick.
DarkMatter is one of the best Sci-fi shows on TV please don’t cancel this show.
You said exactly what I was thinking and feeling. KILLJOYS just got a two season pick-up, but DARK MATTER is so much better. I am very surprised and disappointed at SYFY’s decision
What kind of moronic decision is this? There goes my great Friday lineup of Dark Matter, Wynonna Earp and Killjoys! Really a dick move and totally stupid! I am pissed off! The new shop Happy looks plain dumb! You guys are usually smarter than this!
Even if Happy is brilliant I could not watch it as I would start to enjoy it and then have it cancelled right from under me. And you are right, it does look stupid.
This is dreadful news; Dark Matter beats the pants of Killjoys in all creative aspects. Dark Matter is quite simply one of the best sci-fi shows that I have ever watched.
Syfy, you cowards! Bring Dark Matter back for a fourth season.
