Dark Matter: Season Three Ratings

Published: September 1, 2017

Dark Matter TV show on Syfy: season 3 ratings (canceled or season 4?)

(Steve Wilkie / Dark Matter Series 3 Inc / Syfy)

Although Dark Matter did pretty well in its first two seasons, are viewers still interested in the Raza shipmates’ backstories? Syfy seems to think so. In fact, it’s added an after-show — After Dark — for the space opera’s third season. Will Dark Matter be cancelled or renewed for season four? Stay tuned.

A science fiction drama, Dark Matter stars Marc Bendavid, Melissa O’Neil, Anthony Lemke, Alex Mallari Jr, Jodelle Ferland, Roger Cross, and Zoie Palmer. The Syfy TV series follows the crew of a derelict spaceship who awake with no memory of who they are or how they got on board. Still, they must work together to survive a threatening voyage charged with vengeance, betrayal, and plenty of secrets.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.

Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.

For comparisons: The second season of Dark Matter on Syfy averaged a 0.17 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 676,000 viewers.

How are your shows doing in the ratings? Check the current rankings:
A&E | ABC | AMC | Bravo | CBS | CMT | The CW | FOX | Freeform | FX | FXX
Hallmark | HBO | History | MTV | NBC | OWN | Showtime | Starz | Syfy | TBS
TNT | TV Land | USA Network | WGN America

What do you think? Do you like the Dark Matter TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a fourth season?

9/1/17 update: Syfy has cancelled Dark Matter after three seasons. Details here.

instead of just pulling Dark Matter, Syfy should at least give it an ending, not leave us hanging…a short #4 series…a few episodes to tie it up, and give it a closing, not just leave us in mid air and pull it with no closure to the series. Think of the people who enjoy Syfy and Dark Matter. Ya, okay..you are going to pull it…give warning then offer a closure to it. The people matter also. We are the ones left hanging and wondering….think about it. Give us closure to Dark Matter..an ending…but don’t leave us in the dark…please…

I don’t understand how such an awesome series can be cancelled just like that. We need a series 4, you can’t just leave us hanging like this. It is not fair…Syfy….we want more season’s. Dark Matter..i watched mostly on Syfy, than other series or programs. How could Syfy stop such a good series? I will never forgive them, as i now can only dream of a series #4, and wonder how awesome it would have been.

I watch this show when it comes on netflix, this is one of the few series I jump on to watch as soon as there new episodes. I really think whoever owns the rights this series needs to rethink the offers they’ve been given.

SyFy…Once again your killing a good program. I understand as program director you need think what people are going to watch. This show is one people really like. The story line that you have written doesn’t just end. Currently you have a lot loose ends that need to be tied up. Maybe you dont want to do a full season but you owe us 4-6 episodes to close this down right. I think this needs to be said if you dont start showing the SyFy community you actually care about what they think. You might just find them leaving you.

DARK MATTER IS AN AWESOME SHOW, IT HAS SOME HUMOR BUT ITS ALSO REAL SERIOUS. AND I LIKE THAT #2 IS A FEMALE THAT LEADS THE CREW. SYFY MADE A HUGE MISTAKE WHEN THEY CUT DEFIANCE, I HOPE THEY SMART ENOUGH TO RENEW DARK MATTER, WE NEED MORE SHOWS LIKE THIS. TO KEEP KILLJOY AND CUT DARK MATTER IS THE WORSR MISTAKE SYFY MAKE. DARK MATTER IS WAY WAY WAY BETTER THEN KILLJOY WILL EVER BE. DARK MATTER IS AWESOME BROH.

So we as adults, like to watch tv shows with our kids. Shows like Defiance, Aftermath, Dark Matter etc . Tv shows that a lot of kids like to watch. It keeps them away from other items with screens. It may not be the best things to do with your kids but it sure helps that a parent and child can discuss the events that happened and somehow make an educated guess of what is going to happen on the next show or even a next season. Stop with all the cancelling of all these syfy shows. Just keep them… Read more »

I enjoy the Dark Matter series and I hope another network picks it up so we can get a season 4. It wouldn’t be right to end the whole series the way season 3 ended. And us fans deserve more than Syfy’s crazy decision to cancel the show.

WHHHHY! It was such a show ;-; . Never have I found such a show ;-; till i had found Dark Matter. And Defiance. They cancelled that too!! Keep your poop together! They are killing the awesomeness! Its like finally to meet your creator just to find out its evil. Ehm (Prometheus). For… Some… Reason… Ookaay i see some reasonsss…. But wouldn’t it be worth to fund a little more? I mean in my position I would give away a million if a had the double in my pocket. They talk about saving lives, the innocence. It is kinda the… Read more »

How about the show was getting ratings that were considered UNACCEPTABLE for DECADES(for a show to be renewed) and was still renewed? How about the ratings went DOWN in season three from what they did in season two? As soon as SYFY let the Dark Matter people know it was not going to be renewed, they should have filmed a conclusion, not a cliffhanger. If SYFY didn’t let them know until after filming had finished, then SYFY gets a lot of blame.

To cancel Dark Matter and renew Killjoys for two seasons when both were doing pretty much the same ratings wise, and despite Dark Matter being a far superior show, is just sheer lunacy on SyFy’s part. They could have at least given Dark Matter and Killjoys a single season each to wrap up their shows.

I don’t suppose there is much hope, but it would be great if another network or streaming company picked Dark Matter up, and gave it the final two seasons it had intended to tell the full planned story.

I won’t be watching any more SyFy shows if this is the way they treat viewers. They’ve shown their true corporate colors. Absolutely disgusted!

Keep in mind that this show was renewed after its first season with RATINGS that were considered UNACCEPTABLE FOR DECADES. It was given a third season with RATINGS that were WORSE than season two. They pulled the same stunt with the ending that UNDER THE DOME pulled. As soon as the people making Dark Matter knew it was going to be cancelled, they should have written a conclusion, not a cliffhanger. If SYFY didn’t tell them until after they finished filming the show, then blame SYFY.

That’s the problem. Still using metrics established decades ago when viewers were split between three major networks and a handful of independents. While not spectacular, the numbers would be fine except the network doesn’t have a method to monetize syndication or alternate viewing methods.

Please renew Dark Matter. It appears my age group no longer matters in the ratings game.
