Designated Survivor is nearing the end of its second season, but will it get a third? Recently, star Kiefer Sutherland spoke with Digital Spy about the future of the ABC TV show.
The political drama follows Tom Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland), a lower-level Cabinet member who ends up becoming the President of the United States after an attack on Washington D.C. The cast also includes Adan Canto, LaMonica Garrett, Kal Penn, Maggie Q, Malik Yoba, Paulo Costanzo, Zoe McLellan, Ben Lawson, Tanner Buchanan, and Mckenna Grace.
In the interview, Sutherland revealed he believes ABC will renew Designated Survivor for a third season:
“I do believe it is [coming back], but nothing is ever written in stone. I think television is such an exciting format right now, and so much great work is being done. [But] I think networks are very challenged by how to keep up.”
And when will we know? Sutherland says sometime in May:
Do I believe we’re going to do a third season? Yes. Is that a guarantee? Not until, I think, May 15. So we’ll see, we’ll see.”

Looking forward for next seasons of this excellent serie. I started watching it on Netflix a couple of days ago and it kept me captivated so much that I watched all episodies in just 2 or 3 days. Felt myself as living in the White House.
The only show that keeps me captivated, on the edge of my seat with suspense!!!
Please, Please, Please have a Season 3. One of the best shows on TV & the only show on ABC that I watched.
I was really enjoying watching Designated Survivor & was looking forward to watching it at least 2 or 3 more years. I’m hoping that the ppl in charge of what shows get renewed & which don’t, will reconsider & bring it back.
Personally I was enjoying watching Desiated Survivor & was looking forward to it’s 3rd season. I hope the people in charge of what shows get renewed & which don’t, will change their minds & give it at least 1 more season.
This is one of my favorite shows. The actors, especially Kiefer Sutherland, are excellent! Please DO NOT cancel one of the best shows on television. If you want to cancel a show, cancel the (ridiculous) Gong Show, which I disliked the first time around–sadly, did not get any better. Thank you.
