Holmes and Watson will be back solving cases next season. CBS has renewed the Elementary TV show for a fourth season.
A contemporary update on the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle characters, Elementary follows eccentric detective Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Doctor Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) as they help solve crimes in New York. Aidan Quinn and Jon Michael Hill co-star.
The series has taken a big hit in the ratings this year. The third season is averaging a 1.29 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.44 million viewers. That’s down by 25% in the demo and down by 15% in total viewers.
Still, it seemed a certainty that Elementary would be renewed for a fourth year. The next season’s installments will give the crime drama enough episodes for a potentially lucrative syndication package.

Relieved to hear Elementary earned a fourth season. agree with others that the Kitty episodes dragged down this past season’s show. Love the tension / interaction between Holmes and Watson, and all the details of the NYC brownstone. The acting and script is terrific, a high quality, risk-taking detective show with brains. Great casting, camera, direction on a level with British mysteries seen on PBS. Lots of layers and complexity and character development. Something to look forward to on Thursday night.
Love this show and acting is terrific. Do agree that Johnny Lee Miller needs to slow his speaking down a bit. So glad show is being renewed!
I though the Kitty character nearly killed the show. I thought she was obnoxious and seemed to entirely dominate the earlier episodes, to the detriment of said show. Towards the end of her time, I did warm a to her a little (great actress), but the damage was done and I think that’s what hurt the ratings. Yeah one of the best dshows on v right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope they continue this show for a long time. I miss Sherlock’s London Protégé so much. Bring her back.

Big Bang Theory and Elementary make up my TV watching for Thursday night. My only criticism for Elementary is when johnny lee Miller speaks, with his British accent, he sometimes talks very fast and away from the mic. Hard to pick up on what’s going on.
I agree, thank god for rewind and closed captioning. I also love Watson’s wardrobe. Great it got renewed.
You are absolutely correct about that–my wife and I aren’t sure why (with all the advances in sound, etc.) they can’t simply amplify his voice a bit. Wouldn’t seem to be hard at all.
LOL…. I’ve been saying all along that he talks toooo fast and tooo garbled. I’m glad to see we’re not the only ones who immediately turn on the closed captioning when this comes on. Hope someone in charge can tell Mr. Miller to speak up & slow it down! OH, and I love Watson AND her cute wardrobe!
One of the best shows currently running. Johnny L.M. is an outstanding Holmes. Great cast to boot!
soooo glad to hear that this fantastic show is coming back, i love it love johny lee miller as holmes , never cared for lucy lui ,but i got to like her in this, so glad that is staying around, what with all these other top shows being cancled, its sad to see such great shows end prematurely.
Delighted at this show’s renewal. Just try to keep the “Sherlock relapses” plots either non-existent or minimal–they get rather tedious.Johnny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu are both terrific, and play well against each other.
I have loved the show from the outset, but I think that some of the plot lines have not been advantageous. For characters with such obvious chemistry it has been disappointing to see that aspect not capitalized upon. This past season being opposite HTGAWM on ABC with its graphic sex scenes was very difficult if you were not determined to stay with the show.
The producers have been responsible for the problems the show has experienced.

Well the business of “show business” wins again. This get another season only because of a potentially lucrative syndication package. Lost interest after season 1.
We’re British, in the 18/49 demo and much prefer Elementary to the Beeb’s Sherlock. Jonny Lee Miller is a much more interesting Sherlock and a brilliant actor. Lucy Liu is fantastic, much more subtle acting than Martin Freeman. Great show, hope it becomes a cult show like Friends. It already has huge fans among the young I. This country.
This is another show that we never miss. Johnny Lee Miller’s idiosyncratic acting and the intelligent storylines raise this series above the typical police procedural.
