Should NBC return to the Land of Oz? The network’s freshman series Emerald City just ended its first season on March 3rd, but should it be renewed for second two?
Based on the books by L. Frank Baum, the Emerald City fantasy drama follows Dorothy Gale (Adria Arjona), a young woman who is transported from Kansas to a mystical and mysterious land called “Oz.” The cast also includes Vincent D’Onofrio, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ana Ularu, Mido Hamada, Gerran Howell, Jordan Loughran, and Joely Richardson.
Season one of Emerald City debuted on January 6th to low ratings, earning a 1.00 rating in the 18-49 demo and 4.485 million viewers. From there, the numbers declined further. It would seem that viewer interest was waning. The show’s first season only managed to average a 0.72 rating in the 18-49 demo and 3.02 million viewers — making it the lowest-rated new series on NBC.
What do you think? Should NBC return to Emerald City for a second season or should it be cancelled? Would you watch season two?
I loved the first season and would definitely follow another
I love the show, watched all the episodes, the amazing storyline, the set design, and amazing casts! Please come back for season 2!
Love this show. For a fantasy yarn, it was all stakes high drama and the actors are amazing. Love the characters and the interpretation over all. Beautifully filmed and produced. I hope they dont leave us hanging. Season 2!
I would watch it. I believe there was not enough advertisement for season one.
I grew up watching the Wizard of Oz which is what had me start watching this in the first place and I have to say I’ve loved every minute of this show. It has been very enjoyable to watch and I REALLY would like for a second season to be done..I want to see how it progresses.
This show is amazing, great script, great costumes, great actors, great production, but horrible marketing. Everything is so well done except for the part of getting the word out about the show. NBC please give this amazing show, cast, and story more life!
I love this show– the pilot was a jumbled mess, but the generally high level of acting– Ana uluru especially– and the great chemistry between oliver and adriana make this show really engrossing.
Totally awesome. Please bring it back. We need a lot more of Emerald City!!!!!!
Please bring back season 2!
Kathy – I would definitely watch season 2. I found it too dark at first, but intriguing as season 1 progressed.
Nielson Ratings are bogus! We don’t watch TV like we did in the 1950s, and NBC knows that. Anyway, this is easily the best fantasy show on TV right now, and is still building its audience. It takes time and commitment from the network for that to happy, and Emerald City has the potential to become huge!
Give the show a chance. It has been on for just a half season. I am tired of shows being cancelled when they have not been given much of a chance to begin with. I hate a show to end with a cliffhanger.
This show it’s absolutely amazing! Please make more seasons!!
A very well done show! I have thoroughly enjoyed watching every episode and was looking forward to a 2nd season. Please renew! If not, please sell to Netflix or another streaming service (Hulu, Amazon) since this is the only way I can watch it. I don’t have cable/satellite and will never have it. Streaming is all I can do, and the major networks fail to take that into account when weighing the ratings, which really aren’t indicative of the true viewship. I have friends and family who watch like this as well.
Love this show I watch every episode. It’s extremely well done and deserves a better season in a better time slot.
I completely agree. The plot, acting, and pace are all really well-done. I don’t understand why they place shows such as this on Friday time-slots. It is geared much more toward audiences that are more likely to watch it throughout the week, not on the cusp of the weekend. Sunday night might be more appropriate. If history holds up, NBC will renew it, but inevitably kill it by switching its night a few times during the fall/spring, disrupting its viewership. They’ll then fill its place with the same generic police/lawyer/doctor show.
