NBC is getting musical. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the network has just bought a new period musical drama titled Voice of the City.
From playwright Claudia Shear, the series will follow the romantic relationship between Patrick and Lucy as they try and make it in 1891 New York City. Voice of the City will feature original music from Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who previously contributed original songs to NBC’s former musical series, Smash.
Though Smash was cancelled in 2013 after two seasons, NBC has had some luck with their live musicals. Last week’s The Wiz Live! drew in big numbers for the network as well as critical praise.
What do you think? Would you watch Voice of the City? Do you think more musical shows should be on television?
