FOX is struggling with their dramas this season. Gotham is a ratings success but Sleepy Hollow is way down and Red Band Society has been cancelled. Will Empire be a hit? Cancelled or renewed for season two?
On Empire, Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) is the CEO of a successful hip hop music company. His life is turned upside down when he learns that he has ALS and must now choose one of his three sons as his successor. The rest of the cast includes Taraji P. Henson, Malik Yoba, Jussie Smollett, Bryshere Gray, Trai Byers, Grace Gealey, Kaitlin Doubleday, and Gabourey Sidibe.
The higher a show’s ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better its chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically the following morning, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
1/17 update: FOX has renewed Empire for a second season.
Final season averages: 5.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 12.97 million total viewers.

These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like the Empire TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Love the show.. Need to be on more often than once a week. Better than the soaps.
This piece of crap should be cancelled and not renewed for a second season it is not that interesting at and too many people are talking about this stupid ass show
I see you’re the only one with that perspective. I’m trying to see what’s stupid about it. You could’ve kept that ignorant comment to yourself and stop hating ..
I want Jim Caviezel on this show!
I want Jim Caviezel and Taraji P. Henson to get it on!
Cookie deserves something better than Lucious!!!!
Bye bye Terrence Howard! Hello Jim Caviezel!
I was interested in Empire at first, and then I saw Taraji P. Henson was in it. Meh. H&F turned TV show = Meh. Didn’t this Air and then go on hiatus until everyone forgot about it and Air to garbage ratings?
No they can’t cancel Empire this show is so good can’t wait until Wednesday
Cant wait for to see it again.
Damn good acting cant wait for Wednesdays
I absolutely love EMPIRE it’s fresh its exciting. Its just right with just enough wrong.Cookies character is GOOD hot ass mess.
Empire is hot! I love the show. I love the fact that African Americans have the lead roles. Congratulations on a second season. I hope there are awards in the future for this instant hit.
EMPIRE
Breaking ratings records and mesmerizing television audiences.
History in the making and a huge “in your face” to a dangerously exclusive industry that prides itself on being stuck in the past, socially.
EMPIRE
Thank you to everyone associated with this extraordinary endeavor.
It is understood that it is impossible to sustain the energy that Empire generates, but episode 6 fell kind of flat when compared with that of the first five. Courtney Love was good, but the removing of her makeup a la Viola Davis in How to Get Away With Murder, was already done this season, and failed. Raven Symone’s addition to the cast seems interesting — let’s see how the rest of the season goes.
The ratings are incredible. I’m glad Taraji is on a show that actually appreciates her contribution.
I know I’m not the only one that thinks the empire show is as pointless as duck dynasty I can’t wait to see this show crash and burn bring back All in the family
Looking at the ratings the show is getting; you may have a long wait before witnessing Empire’s possible “crash and burn”.
….and All In The Family? Are you kidding me? Selling that ancient and boring mess to a modern audience would be a miracle.
All in the family had um literally 2 1/2 times the rating EMPIRE has. And stood the test of time. Just an FYI.
…and just FYI–who cares? It’s an ancient show that’s had its run and left the airwaves years ago.
You’re correct All in the family did have 2 1/2 the times the ratings. The sad part about that is, the high ratings was due to a white racist bigot character! which lets you know how popular racism is in America.
Odd. What does ratings comparisons between shows of two different time periods have to do with anything? All In The Family ran from 01/71-04/79. It’s old as heck and irrelevant to Empire entirely. You sound angry and condescending that Empire is doing well. Anon is right, who cares? Considering the racist tropes the show indulged; it’s no surprise that it ran on CBS for the duration that it did, nor is it a surprise that it was popular with a certain segment of the population. Comparisons between the two are about as relevant as you mentioning it in the first… Read more »
Just another chance at showing how get to even Rich black people can be why is there a reason to make a show that keeps declining as it goes on I give it three more weeks as for having a main people have ALSO is just a ploy to draw the sympathy card the show is just as pointless as duck dynasty
Empire has already been renewed for a second season.
It’s about time that a show such as this finally got a chance to be shown on prime time television. This show is stylish, dramatic and current. I simply love Tariji and Terrence they make a compatible, believable pair. I am very pessimistic about it’s survival. Fox has definitely hit on something, but don’t know how long they will allow this show to be aired no matter the success, simply because it is a successful Black show. My wish is that if Fox decide to drop the show, maybe Oprah (Own channel 131) or Kathy Hughes (TVOne Channel 71) will… Read more »
Nooooo !!! Oprah would make them change their language to darns.
