Doctor Henry Morgan may be immortal but his TV show isn’t. ABC has cancelled the Forever TV series after one season of 22 episodes.
On the Forever TV show, New York City’s star medical examiner (Ioan Gruffudd) can ascertain things that most can not because of his vast experience — he’s been alive for 200 years but can’t figure out the how or the why. The rest of the cast includes Alana de la Garza, Lorraine Toussaint, Donnie Keshawarz, Joel David Moore, and Judd Hirsch.
The series debuted last September to a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.26 million viewers. The ratings grew for episode two but they started falling after that.
Though the Forever series had some very passionate fans, that devotion didn’t translate into positive ratings. The numbers were pretty poor for much of the season and the show ended up averaging a 1.12 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.93 million viewers.
As a result, ABC has decided against ordering a second season of Forever. The last episode aired earlier this week and unfortunately left viewers with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Did you like the Forever TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a larger audience?

One of the best sci-fi/dramas to come along in quite a while. ABC’s problem wasn’t the show or it’s quality, your problem was ABC(& many of us simply do not watch your network, period, ever. Even with Disney as your Owner, we would have watched this show). Now it’s available on CW Seed, fabulous, & the ‘end’ shouldn’t have been. Leaving everyone hanging then a ‘search’ to find out it was cancelled; well, we were just reminded why ABC’s Still the 3rd most watched network of the “big 3”. Management baby; yours sux. Best single season series writing & acting… Read more »
Such a great show cancelled. It makes no sense, just like Heroes, perhaps they should have considered a different day and time to air the show instead of killing it.
Hello! I live in Russia, only now managed to watch the series. And I loved them. But alas, everything ended abruptly. No, I don’t think that this is how things should be done. Whatever was the raiting, it’s truly dissappointing how commercial success can effect the fate of art. Well you know van Gogh was also not a name connected with the word ‘profit’. And then isn’t it a general rule that what is appreciated by many isn’t necessary the best and what is appreciated by few could be. 4 mln is not one person. Quite an audience for Season… Read more »
It’s a very great series I ever saw. Don’t know why it was cancelled. Really really hope Forever can be reopened.
I agree wholeheartedly!!!
I keep hoping they will bring Forever back. Can’t understand why they didn’t continue showing it. Just Loved it.
disappointing!!!!! forever is the best serie I have ever watched with the best actors! I really can’t Believe a decision such as this was made! It’s really sad..
Already Been Cancelled(ABC). This network has a history of killing good shows at the least provocation. They don’t make any effort to find a slot where it will work or give it any time to mature. I have quit watching network TV. Streaming services are the way to go. No more getting invested in a show to have the network kill it when the magic 18 to 49 demographic wont watch it in overwhelming numbers.
I never heard of this show until I started watching the cw network on my roku. I saw it listed under the cw seed and watched all 22 using every moment of free time I could find. Truely a great show better than most shows still on the air. The network screwed up on this one with either a poor time slot bad night or poor/misleading advertising. With the correct promotion this show would have been a bigger hit than it was.
Its important that show keeps on going. It’s got flowers around the world.
