Last month, we reported that USA Networks was considering cancelling its long-running Law & Order: Criminal Intent series. After a number of different scenarios were supposedly bandied about, the cable channel has made up its mind — or has it?
The spin-off series follows investigations of high-profile cases. The show moved from NBC to USA Networks in 2007. Up until last year, it starred Vincent D’Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe. This past season starred Jeff Goldblum, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, and Saffron Burrows.
Due to the TV show’s uncertain future, Goldblum decided to exit. The rest of the cast’s contracts expired over the summer.
USA has now decided to both renew and cancel Criminal Intent. It’ll come back for a 10th and final season of eight episodes. This will bring the series total to 195 installments.
On the positive side, D’Onofrio is returning as Detective Goren, a character he’s played in 133 episodes. Other castmembers are still in negotiations to return.
Executive producer Dick Wolf said, “Only time will tell if this is a fond farewell or a renaissance for Detective Robert Goren but everyone is ecstatic about going back to work on a show that’s a passion for all of us.”
Interestingly, Jeff Wachtel, president of original programming for USA, doesn’t sound totally committed to ending the show. He said “We have been the fortunate caretakers of this legendary series, and we plan to give it the world-class farewell it so richly deserves. Dick and his team promise to create a major event for television with incredible surprises. The plan is for this to be the series finale, but with a Dick Wolf franchise, one really never knows until it’s over.”
The 10th and final (?) season of Law & Order Criminal Intent is expected to air in 2011.

So happy they are bringing back Goren and Eames. I stopped watching after they left. It wasn’t the same without them. I can’t wait to see the new episodes!!

I stop watching after D’Onofre & Eames left the show….I love D’Onofre he made the show a hit, after he left the show it was not the same….Hopefully they both come back….Can’t wait to see Detective Goren do his thing…=]

I have never missed an episode of L&O Criminal Intent. I was upset when D’Onofre and Eames left the show. I hope they both come back for season 10. Hopefully, this will be a new beginning for the show. USA, don’t cancel the show.
Goren (and Eames) are why I watched. I’m Happy it’ll be back! We’ll see how it goes.
I definitely think they should bring CI back and give it a proper ending, and let Goren and Eames leave with dignity instead of leaving it with them being so unceremoniously dumped. Both the actors and the characters deserve much better!
PLEASE, bring back Goren & Eames. They are what made that show. Mike Logan was pretty good too.

Well maybe if they did not keep making new cast members and canning the old cast members it still would have been an awesome show like I say “If it’s not Broke don’t fix it” every new member on Law&Order CI sucks in my opinion everyone before them was great maybe they will learn but still sad to see it go just like Law&Order went I bet Law&Order SVU will go next since now there trying to start Law&Order LA
Yes, it should return for season 11 and many more after that. It not as good as SVU or the original but still good. Maybe Jeff is leaving but bring in another big name to replace him or something. Don’t end a good thing you got here.
