Why did CBS cancel Limitless? At this summer’s TCA press tour, network chief Glenn Geller explained why there will be no second season of the series, TVInsider reports.
Based on the 2011 film, the drama followed Brian Finch (Jake McDorman), who is given a special drug that unlocks 100% of his brain. The cast also included Jennifer Carpenter, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Hill Harper, and Colin Salmon.
During the panel, Geller said CBS cancelled Limitless because he didn’t “think it connected with the viewers”:
Ultimately we had to look at the show; it was a very good show, but I don’t think it connected with the viewers as well as other shows had. Yeah, we could have brought it back. But we also have to put on new shows and give other things a shot. It could have come back, but we have to do better; we want to improve time periods. That’s why we put on new shows.”

I absolutely love this show- I was very much connected, I felt like I was on the drug while watching- excellent acting! I can’t believe they cancelled it, and over a dumb reason- maybe they should ask the actual audience next time.. They should definitely make it available to Netflix or something to carry on another season, I’ve watched the movie twice and am in the middle of watching the series for a 3rd time- please bring it back!!!
Please bring this show back!! we’re all adults here. Good drama/intrigue is the name of the game. Cancellation was very ill advised. Let’s all puke up our political correctness and just go for the excellence this production exuded.
I LOVED LIMITLESS! I just think people didn’t get a chance to find it. I just did and I am definitely wanting more. The creativeness was through the roof! The acting was so good, I only had issue with one episode and I watched the whole series again because I couldn’t get season two.
We watched both the movie and series on Netflix. This was by far one of the best series we have watched in a LONG time! Very original and refreshing. We definitely would have watched a second season. CBS made a BAD call on this one. Netflix should pick it up and create more episodes.
I agree with Lynn, CBS should have renewed “LIMITLESS” and the hunt for Eddie Morra and the rest of his crew or Sands’ crew and Im sure there are other storylines that could have been written
. what connection to the audience are they looking for? my son loves the show , I love the show and Im nearly 60 yrs old.
Cop-sidekick shows are old hat, but Limitless had breathed life back into the genre. Good casting, great writing, excellent acting and direction. I suspect that scheduling had it in conflict with other networks ‘Good Shows’ that were already established, so the viewers were torn between following what they had already been watching and the newcomer, example, Penny Dreadful -v- Game of Thrones’, PD lost because of dumb scheduling. I watched the entire season straight through on netflix! Just to be heartbroken after learning it was canceled. Really… Come on CBS.
You made a mistake.. but when it is released somewhere it will be bigger than it would have been.. worth a second look!
The story set-up and story development were ingenious!
Some other group should fund ad pick up the show
it was a great series. i don’t know about the ratings it was getting. the explanation for why it was canceled was entirely generic, though. no real insight was offered. basically, just rip up the tv show and start all over with a new one… seems like a waste in many ways.
I love the show , I miss watching it. Wish it would come back on. My whole family loves this show.
