Despite pretty low ratings in the prized 18-49 demographic, CBS has kept Madam Secretary on the air. How will it do in season three? Will the numbers go up or down? Will the series be cancelled or is it essentially guaranteed to be renewed to make sure it has enough episodes for syndication? Stay tuned.
On Madam Secretary, Elizabeth McCord (Tèa Leoni) is the shrewd and determined Secretary of State who drives international diplomacy. She battles office politics and circumvents protocol as she negotiates global and domestic issues, both at the White House and at home. The cast also includes Tim Daly, Željko Ivanek, Bebe Neuwirth, Patina Miller, Geoffrey Arend, Erich Bergen, Wallis Currie-Wood, Kathrine Herzer, and Evan Roe.
The ratings are typically the best sign of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
3/23 update: Madam Secretary has been renewed for season four on CBS. Details here.
5/22 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The second season of Madam Secretary averaged a 1.20 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.10 million total viewers.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Madam Secretary TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for season four on CBS?
I love Madam Sec ! Keep it going!
I love Madam Secretary!!! Please do not cancel this show. I am not part of the 18-49 demographic, but I am SICK, of all the worthless shows, that seems to thrill that age group.
I’m 25 and Madam Secretary is the reason why I’m getting involved in our Government! Tea and Tim’s on-screen relationship is just the same as it is with their off-screen relationship, they put each other and their family first. I love everything about Madam Secretary and what it stands for! So PLEASE CBS RENEW MADAM SECRETARY!
Absolutely the finest dramatic series on tv….we never miss an episode and have it set to record every week. Best acting, plots, and spot on pertinent to current events.
Best show on TV. People in Australia love it. Please keep it on for a new season.
Please continue Madame Secretary. It is the best written and acted show on television. My entire family adores it.
My husband and I are late comers to the show. We love it! Of course it gets a little hokey sometimes but we love it anyway, and the family interaction stuff is great. Please keep it on; it’s a nice show to watch.
Why would they keep that show on the air? It was an obvious “wink and nod” to Hillary. There’s no sense keeping that show on now.
I love this show. It is pretty clean, which most are not any more, and portrays a good story line. I know it is not the most realistic but can a show truly show what is going on in real White House situations?
Not in the demographic. But we consider Madam Secretary one of the better shows on the air. We would like very much for this show to continue.
Love the show, it’s my favorite. Hoping it won’t be canceled.
looks like this Hillary propaganda show is as dead as her presidential aspirations
This is a favorite of my wife and I. We would like to see the series continue. TV is full of lame reality and game shows. It is nice to see one with some substance.
Lame portrayal of a government official with overly dramatic poor acting!
If these ratings continue, CBS needs to cancel this show. it’s a stinker.
Lame portrayal of a government official with overly dramatic poor acting!
