Poor ratings have claimed another victim. It’s been learned that NBC has cancelled their Midnight, Texas TV show. While there won’t be a third season of the supernatural drama on the peacock network, Universal Television is reportedly shopping the series to other outlets.
Based on the book series of the same name, from True Blood author Charlaine Harris, Midnight, Texas stars François Arnaud, Dylan Bruce, Parisa Fitz-Henley, Arielle Kebbel, Jason Lewis, and Peter Mensah. Guest stars in the second season on NBC include Michael Harney, Mindy Sterling, Adam Langdon, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Jaime Murray, and Nick Lee. The supernatural drama unfolds in the remote Texas town of Midnight, a haven for those hiding out from the world. There, only outsiders belong, while normality is just plain weird. The townies come together to form a sort of chosen family. Together they fend off external pressures from nosy police officers, vicious biker gangs, and their own dark pasts.
While Midnight, Texas has some devoted fans, the cancellation hardly comes as a surprise when you look a the ratings. The first season averaged a meager 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.99 million viewers.
Despite the low ratings, NBC renewed the summer series and opted to air the show as part of the regular broadcast season. The network chose to program it on Friday nights, the same evening that NBC once aired their supernatural Grimm series.
The ratings for season two have been much lower and the eight installments have averaged a very low 0.40 demo rating with 2.08 million viewers. Unless Universal is able to find a new home for Midnight, the defacto series finale is set to air on Friday, December 28th.
What do you think? Do you like the Midnight, Texas TV show? Would you watch a third season of this supernatural series?
Love, loved this show, great characters some good actors & acting and story lines. Maybe it just needed advertising better and aired at an earlier more accessible prime time slot. There is such a lot of same same same old programs on right now with Americans version, uk version, Irish version and so on, reality this and reality that with no effort or talent to make or direct cheap easy no effort programming all same these days and these don’t get axed people maybe too used to all this brain numbing rubbish that when something different comes along with actual… Read more »
I’m never home to watch TV I have to record and every time they come up with something I do like then they drop it
It was a awesome show I loved it’s originalty and the fact that they were so different but consider themselves family. All around good series hope it gets picked up.
OMG Bella. I couldn’t have said it any better.
Seems like everytime a really great series like Midnight comes along, they replace it with another crime series or hospital series. I give up on broadcast tv and stick with satellite. This was one of the best original series to come out in a long time. I really hope someone picks up this show, it’s my favorite. GOODBYE ABC, hope your next series is as unoriginal as most of the other ones you have left.
One of my favorite shows.
A shame as I loved this show.
It seems like every time a good show comes on It gets Cancelled and I love the show I watched it all the time
I really liked the show. I found it on Hulu. I never knew it was broadcasted on tv. Never saw trailers or ads for it anywhere. I would love a 3rd season, especially since the last episode ended with a cliff hanger. And I am also very frustrated that all the good shows get cancelled with no real ending.
We loved the show i really think the network was responsible dmfor the poor ratings both seasons ended and started with little advertising and tbe fans that truly loved the show was left wondering from season 1 not to mention season 2 with its play one week and not tbe next reputation
We love Midnight Texas. I’m outside your core group at 60, but my daughter and grandson also love the show. Please keep it around!
So tired of watching a series and then getting left hanging with no conclusion. At least when they cancelled Grimm they gave it a conclusion.
Let down again
I am getting a bit fed up of brilliant series being cancelled without a proper conclusion – the times I watch things, love it and wait for the next series only to be let down again!!!! Just coz things may not be mainstream doesn’t mean it’s no goo or not enjoyed!!!
You have to make a season 3 of midnight texas there where so many things left up in the air on the finale that need to be told like what is gonna happen to bo bo and fiji’s unborn child also the demon from the painting being in midnight and the fact that Olivia is now a vampire c’mon there are so many loyal viewers hate when there’s a series u watch and love then they leave the finale with so many unanswered questions like a cliffhanger then don’t renew the season to find out what happens next
Totally agree…
Please bring it back – give us closure. My husband and I enjoyed the show very much.
