The ratings for the first season of Motive weren’t very good but ABC renewed it anyway (in part because they license it from Canada so it’s cheaper). Will they want a third season or will the series be cancelled instead? Stay tuned!
Motive revolves around a strong-willed Vancouver detective (Kristin Lehman) who’s also a single mom. At the start of each episode, viewers are shown the killer and victims. As the criminal investigation progresses, details of what led to the crime are revealed via flashbacks. The rest of the cast includes Louis Ferreira, Lauren Holly, Roger Cross, Brendan Penny, and Cameron Bright.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. 5/29/14 update: The show has been renewed for a third season in Canada.
6/2/15 update: ABC has dropped the series.

I absolutely love Motive. I think it’s one of the best shows on TV today. Shame on whoever wants to cancel it. This show is fantastic. I watch it and tape it to watch a second time. Was surprised to see that it’s now on at 11P and not 10P but will still watch and tape it. I hope this series continues for years!!!!!
I love Motive. The acting is really good and the chemistry between the detectives is spot-on. I also love the format. I hope, hope, hope it gets renewed.

MY daughters and I love the show and look forward to it each week. We have it set up to tape each week in case we are out of town. I miss it terribly. Please bring it back!!

I love Motive. It was very interesting to see “who done it” and not know how or why. Alot of the characters who were “the bad guys” I thouhgt to myself how can they be “the bad guy”? How could they have killed someone and then you watch the show and you see and you say aw, that’s how. There isn’t a show out there like this. It is definately one of a kind and I wish they would renew it!
I love Motive! It would be a real shame if ABC doesn’t pick up the third season. It takes a superior show like Motive to bring me inside during the beautiful Michigan summers to watch TV. It is literally the only show I watch during the summer other than an occasional baseball game.
Please bring back Motive for season 3 in the USA. It is my favorite show. The acting is outstanding and the premise is unique…not your average, predictable program that I get so tired of seeing.

I need to have at least one more season of this intelligent, entertaining show. There are almost no dramas with female leads. I don’t need another CSI with an expensive Oscar winner when I can watch this show .. the cast is great — the Canadians produce some awesome stuff and I will watch each episode if aired. If an audience is missing it’s because of poor scheduling, lack of promotion or any other lame excuse networks come up with for dumping great shows.
Motive is one of the best TV programs. Obviously there are many fans who agree this is a show to be renewed. The cast is perfect together, professional and extremely. talented. I love it!
I came across this show by accident and never found it on ABC. It is flat out my favorite cop show. I love the directing of it and I love the time change scenes where the video focuses on an item and then changes it to a different item. I am watching on Canadian channel, and I can definitely see a loss of the quality this season. The time changes are minimal and the directing of how they change is not dynamic.
