The peacock network is still struggling to find some new hit shows so it’s no surprise that they’re running several new reality shows this summer. America’s Got Talent continues to be one of their most successful shows each year.
There’s lots of information that NBC takes into consideration when cancelling or renewing a TV series but the ratings are the biggest factor, particularly the 18-49 demographic. That’s the group that the advertisers want to reach the most so the networks must cater to them.
Viewership is obviously lower during the summer months (here’s the NBC report card for the regular 2011-12 season).
The following chart incorporates “summer” season ratings data through Thursday, September 6, 2012.
Demo rank | Summer NBC TV shows | Demo grade | 18-49 demo rating (actual) | Viewers in millions | |

A couple of things to remember:
The averages included in these charts are based on the final numbers, not the fast affiliate ratings that are reported the morning after a show airs. These final numbers become available one to three days later (depending on holidays or weekends).
Demo numbers are reported by Nielsen using the 10th decimal place (2.1, for example). In these charts, we’re including the rounded demo average as well as the average in 100ths (2.14, for example) in parenthesis so you can get a better idea of how the number’s been affected by the latest episode’s rating.
The letter grades are relative and are based on the individual network’s overall performance. The networks all have very different gauges for success. A hit show on The CW would get quickly cancelled on CBS. Our system for coming up with letter grades isn’t perfect but it should still give you an idea of where the shows stand when compared to others on the same network.
*The letter grades for TV series that run on Friday and Saturday nights are weighted a little differently to compensate for them airing on little-watched nights.
What do you think? How are your favorites doing? What would you like to see cancelled or renewed?
PLEASEE SAVE SAVING HOPE!!! Its a really good show and i honestly haven’t been zoo addicted to a show before. Im so sick of the stupid reality shows that are farrrr away from reality..Saving Hope is a wonderful show with really good actors!!!
Please don’t cancel Saving Hope. It’s a smart and refreshing show. It’s getting so I hate to start watching a new show, because I’m afraid it will get cancelled and many times it does.
I’m so sick of all the “reality shows”. Just because reality shows are so cheap to produce doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do.
Saving Hope is the best thing NBC has come to good television in a while. That and Smash! I really miss the days of West Wing. Now that was a hit. Give Saving Hope time and promote it better!! Please renew– I watch every week:)
WE LOVE SAVING HOPE!!!!!! We, too record it. My son accidentally deleted the recording of the episode where we found out if he lives or dies, and WE almost died! We had to find it online the next day to watch it! Please do not cancel it!!!!!!
Please keep Saving Hope! Some of us don’t like the reality shows!!!
Hahaha, NBC is struggling!! Go Figure!!! Thats what you get for cancelling your good shows like: HEROES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Heroes was a hit that you hadnt had in 5 years, and than you cancel it!!!!! It gained you ratings, and you backstabbed it!!!!!!

Hello, Looking for NBC’s website address for their Host’s Report Card. I’d like to go directly to them and found many sites, but not nbc specific ratings site. I ‘d like to comment on the dismissial of Host, Ann Curry. I was shocked! To me, Ann Curry should have been in that position long before the millionaire host. Her honesty, integrity and heart-felt caring far surpassed Matt Lauer’s pampas attributes! After watching for many decades, great is my dissappointment in NBC. Savannah Guthrie is NOT the ticket! I pray Ann Curry is blessed tremendously and than NBC’s ratings continue to… Read more »
Saving Hope is one of my favorite shows. I tape it to watch at ten pm because my son like to watch it with me and he doesn’t get home from work until after 9 pm. We don’t want to miss a minute. Please tell NBC to keep this show!
