The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.

I really enjoyed all the series’ and the quirky professor it was different. Why as soon as you get into a new series do they cancel it?
I fell in love with Perception the minute I found it on Hulu. And now it’s gone. What’s up with that? I haven’t gotten my fill of the quirky professor yet!!!
It gives Hulu one up on finding interesting shows to air. Perception is fresh and follows a crime to it’s ending which is standard and realistic. Of course it ends as most due after a few seasons.Hope a similar show is the replacement or people may not watch these types of shows for fear of getting hooked and then let down when it ends.
I really enjoyed all the series and I just found out it has been canceled… nonsense…I’m sick and tired of superheroes and a bunch of craps. I really want to see them on tv once more
I love Perception. When it first aired on TV, I watched a few episodes, but I stopped watching it. I’ve recently been watching it on HULU. It was an AMAZING show. I love it. I don’t understand why it was cancelled. They should bring it back.
I originally didn’t know when Perception first aired, but I recently started watching it, and it seemed like I couldn’t stop. I was so upset when I found out it was cancelled !!!!! I wish they would start it back up again, it was exceptionally thought out, and kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved it.
Anybody else as sick of reality shows as me. Ninja warrior is fine once per week. I cannot stand Big Brother, survivor, Bachelorette, or the Kardashians. People who like to watch mud caked sweaty Island contestants need to progress from the Stone Age!
I absolutely agree with you one hundred percent. First and foremost reality shows are pretty much scripted and the rest they allow the people to kind of play with the conversation. But perception was such an excellent show. I believe I’m watching it on the app CBS at the moment for free. Just started watching this show a couple months ago and I’m already through all three seasons. Such a well done, high quality, refreshingly clean, educational and interesting show! I also appreciate it shedding light on a growing number of brain disorders people are dealing with in the real world. Too bad it was cancelled for edgier crap that I’ll never waste my time with. Perception was an excellent show. Who are these people that cancel interesting and well done works of art and replace it with junk?!!
Actually I kind of think maybe it was canceled due to a couple subjects that were brought up like Kuru and because it was very clean even though it had cuss words and a few suggestive themes, I think it possibly could have been canceled due to the fact that it leaned a bit more to the right. And frankly they don’t want people being educated on subjects that are really happening. But that’s just what I think about it but it’s an excellent or was an excellent show!
There has never been a program like “Perception”. Mr.McCormack made the program totally believable, educational, and entertaining. It was a huge disappointment when the program was cancelled. Hopefully, it will be renewed soon.
I just started watching Perception via Hulu, I do not like watching programed TV I watch it on my time, and binge when I enjoy the show as I did with all three seasons. I like shows that make you think and relate to the real world and Perception hit a home run for me. I like how they tell it like it is. Regular TV show Dumb shows and if you keep cancelling good shows, I’ll have to start reading books.
Now, Eric McCormack is on that asinine Debra Messing crud of a show. I’ve stated over and over again that Perception was top notch entertainment. Well written, directed and acted. They cancel the cream and leave us the crap!
That sucks, why do all the good shows keep getting taken off the air, leaving us with all these stupid reality shows??

Loved Perception! please bring it back? it is interesting to learn more about how our brain really works along with our emotions. It was educational, funny and dramatic. Who could ask for more?
I just been releases from the hospital last year when I came across Perception. I enjoyed the series and I am in agreement for renewal if season four don’t leave us with a cliffhanger imaginug if Kate and Donnie will get married or if Dr. Pierce will find the love of his life. Dog! The good series always end with no closure
