The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.

i very much enjoyed this series. did a good job showing we all are different bringing various talents and that is a good thing; yes bring it back.
In my last post I said I was through posting on this. I have to vent my spleen somewhere, so here goes. This has been the worst off season on TV. So fed up with survivor, Ninja Warrior, Big Brother, and all reality shows. Here’s my repeat: Perception was the best show in 20 years, it made you think. It was well scripted, acted and had good continuity. For those of you who prefer someone else think for you, stick with the Kardashians, and Big Bang theory!
Totally agree with you, Michael, about perception. I can’t believe it was cancelled and that no other network picked it up. Given the tripe that carries the day now, I spend most days with the set off. I confess I think BB Theory can be hilarious. Also, Amazon and Netflix do well with quality, my favorite being Bosch on Amazon. But, for god’s sake, bring back Perception!!

I really hope that Perception will be aired again. Please continue with season 4. I’m sure the build up will be good. Kate and Donny don’t really have to be the happily ever after kinda couple. Story line can be further worked on. Maybe more tensions between the two giving way for Pierce to make himself ‘visible’ to Kate. And the bond between Pierce and Max. Bring Perception back…

Whyyyyy? Oh I really love and enjoy this series, how they try to use another perspective in detective movie series, with Daniel Pierce as neuroscientist. I hope another channel will continue this series. Please.
I really enjoyed Perception and would definitely resume watching if it was picked up by another channel, even if it has been a long time since it was cancelled. It was a good and quite interesting series, and I really enjoyed all the character’s portrayals and the debate about mental illness, which I felt the series positively contributed to (although, not all the theories on neurological or mental disorders were backed by empirical evidence in the real world). Perception was definitely quality tv, but it also had good ratings. That makes it doubly hard to understand why it was cancelled and why no other channel picked it up. As for TNT, I agree. Major Crimes is all that is left.

Now we’re seeing posts from a cross section of folks and heritage. By now , it must be apparent to the most die hard fans of Perception, that the all knowing network execs are interested in one thing only: REVENUE! Quality TV for the most part is passé . It’s such a shame that we can’t have two or three channels that show what fans of quality TV are interested in, and not crap like survivor, Kardashians, ninja warriors, and other reality shows we are forced to endure!

It’s hard to believe that stupid shows are going on and very interesting and well done shows like Perception and Stargate Universe, just to mention two of them, are prematurely halted. It must be obscure interest, money or other things without true meaning. Bravo for the team who did Perception and a big sorry for the cancellation.

And im talking for people like me. I have for my company only dr pierce. Im schizophrenic too and I put down my life. But this tvshow change my life. You cant deprive my drug. i cant beilive that someone stop perception. ofcource everyone and me too we want renew for a 4 season and if perception change channel i will change channel too
this series has it all. great acting, writing, production. i would go out of my way to watch this … such a shame to lose such a work of art that informs life.
