Though the Rizzoli & Isles TV show remains TNT’s highest rated scripted series, it won’t be returning for an eighth season. The decision has been made to end the crime drama after 105 episodes. The cable channel is clearly ready to say goodbye but, are the viewers?
Rizzoli & Isles revolves around the unlikely but highly effective partnership of police detective Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) and medical examiner Doctor Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander). Lorraine Bracco, Jordan Bridges, Bruce McGill, Adam Sinclair, and Idara Victor co-star.
The ratings for Rizzoli & Isles have been falling for quite awhile. Season four averaged a 1.06 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.24 million viewers. The current (seventh) season is averaging a 0.56 demo rating with 4.07 million.
It’s worth noting that nearly all of TNT’s shows are way down season-to-season and Rizzoli & Isles is actually up in viewership when compared to season six.
So, if it’s still TNT’s top show, why is it ending? Likely because of money. The show has been on for a long time and shows typically get more expensive to produce in later years. The stars were supposedly open to making new seasons but Turner Entertainment chief creative officer Kevin Reilly has said that all involved “felt like it was time.”

I could not wait for the show it was great to watch.
Big Big Mistake!!! The only reason I turned TNT on was for Rizzoli & Isles! Stupid move to cancel your top rated show! Enjoyed every season! It never got boring always kept you guessing and on the edge of your seat, but at the same time was full of humor! Loved all the actors they are wonderful together. Can tell they are true friends/famoly! They are a well oiled machine!! I wish it would continue on I feel like I’m loosing a group of friends! worse decision ever to end this show no point in having a tv license so much rubbish on tv however having rizzoli and isles and major crimes was worth it now rizzoli and isles is gone so not worth it tnt get ur crap together and stop cancelling shows

Why does all the good shows end up getting cancelled! This is by far a much better show than half the programmes that are on tv now a days. Please bring it back!

loved the show, why cancel a show, when it is doing great? SVU is at its 18th season, they didnt cancel, then figure out how to pay up 🙂
Please don’t cancel this show . It is seriously the most fantastic show going . No other show thats putting women in a cop series for years . It’s brilliant and it’s serious but funny as well .all the characters are so good so please don’t cancel.
Such an enjoyable show. I love the characters and am seriously disappointed it won’t be continuing. There are so few enjoyable shows any more.
I wish it would get picked up by Netflix. Even though it is a criminal procedural there are a lot of family oriented scenes that are enjoyable to watch
Each time I mention the show I find there are more and more people who also enjoy this show . . . I thoroughly enjoy the banter/ friendship of Maura and Jane too bad this show is ending instead of the writer’s focusing on developing each of the different characters.
Hope they bring Rizzoli & Isles back in some way shape or form. Whether a new season, or a spin-off set in Washington, or even as an occasional TV movie, I’m in.
What a shame to cancel one of the best shows on TV. Shame on the network and they deserve bad ratings on whatever they bring out. These people worked so well together and should have continued.
It is a real same this show was canceled. My husband and I looked forwarded to watching Rozzilo and Isles. There are so few show on TNT worth watching anymore. What a terrible thing to lose one of the good ones
I just read an article where Kevin Reilly(President of TNT and TBS programming) said the main reason Rizzoli and Isles is being Cancelled is because it’s not appealing to enough Young Viewers(and not the Angie Harmon Contract situation) and they would rather have shows like Samantha Bee, who has lower ratings but appeal to Younger Viewers and are more talked about. So a show where the host bashes Donald Trump all the time in more important than a show with really good ratings. WOW FOLKS!
