Though the Rizzoli & Isles TV show remains TNT’s highest rated scripted series, it won’t be returning for an eighth season. The decision has been made to end the crime drama after 105 episodes. The cable channel is clearly ready to say goodbye but, are the viewers?
Rizzoli & Isles revolves around the unlikely but highly effective partnership of police detective Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) and medical examiner Doctor Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander). Lorraine Bracco, Jordan Bridges, Bruce McGill, Adam Sinclair, and Idara Victor co-star.
The ratings for Rizzoli & Isles have been falling for quite awhile. Season four averaged a 1.06 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.24 million viewers. The current (seventh) season is averaging a 0.56 demo rating with 4.07 million.
It’s worth noting that nearly all of TNT’s shows are way down season-to-season and Rizzoli & Isles is actually up in viewership when compared to season six.
So, if it’s still TNT’s top show, why is it ending? Likely because of money. The show has been on for a long time and shows typically get more expensive to produce in later years. The stars were supposedly open to making new seasons but Turner Entertainment chief creative officer Kevin Reilly has said that all involved “felt like it was time.”

This is my favorite show. It’s the only crime/drama that features two female leads. It’s smart, funny, and wonderfully dramatic. To me, it is like reading a superb murder mystery book I can’t put down. I have gone back to the first Season and rewatched every episode of the series many times over thanks to HULU. I truly hope the show will have an 8th season.

This breaks my heart I just discovered this show and love it.
I loved the books, then to find it as a tv series was fantastic, due to my odd working hours I don’t get to watch it on T.v but Waite patiently for it to come to DVD. Then I watch the last season, before sitting and not moving till I’ve watched the Next . I laugh cry get anger I love these characters,
This was a mistake! Canceling the best show out there…this show never got boring! Seriously cried when I just found out that season seven was the end! Now what? I don’t watch the stupid shows on zombies and vampires because I do not approve of those kinds of shows. But rizzoli and isles…seriously the best show ever made. I hate it when a show and the characters mean so much to me and then it ends. Thanks for breaking my heart!
