canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

The Closer: TNT Sets Season Seven Premiere

by Trevor Kimball, March 13, 2011

The Closer season sevenTNT has announced that The Closer is returning on Monday, July 11th, with 10 new episodes. Will that be the end of cable’s most popular TV series? Not quite.

Last July, TNT announced that The Closer had been renewed for a seventh season of 15 episodes. In December, they revealed that season seven was now considered the final season and there wouldn’t be an eighth. Series star Kyra Sedgwick apparently felt it was time to call it quits. She said, “I want to thank TNT and Warner Bros. Television, as well as the incredible fans of The Closer, for all of their unwavering support over the last seven years.”

In January, TNT began rethinking their wanting to end their most popular series. It was later decided to add six more episodes to the order. So, 10 will air this summer, another five will air over the winter, and then the final six installments will run during the summer of 2012.

The final six episodes will serve as a goodbye to Sedgwick’s Brenda Leigh Johnson. They’ll also set up a potential spin-off series that would probably include the rest of The Closer characters and a new lead. At last report, the new show will be called Major Crimes and focus on the behind-the-scenes deal-making that keeps dangerous criminals off death row.

What do you think? Are you glad to hear that The Closer will be around for awhile longer or would you prefer that TNT air all 21 episodes in one grouping?

Please give this show another year, there isn’t any good cop programs on TV. At least the writers keep you guessing. The new cop shows the writers are off big time on crime. The Closer, CSI, Criminal Minds are the only great shows that the writer make us think, Please one more season

Don’t stretch out the episodes. Just play them in sequence. Also, big mistake to change the premise of the show. Just bring in new lead to continue the “closer” concept. Changing it to a behind-the-scenes brokering for death row candidates sounds like weasel city to me. I don’t watch the Closer for that. I watch it for the cat and mouse game. And I wouldn’t try to replace Brenda Lee with another tough cookie. I think I would go to the opposite extreme and bring in someone like the lead in Fairly Legal.

Probably will wait until all episodes are aired and then download them off the internet. That way I can watch them all in one week’s time.

Love the program and wish it had another few seasons.

Fan of the show The Closer, and don’t want it to end!! Love all the charters and their interactions… well casted!! Especially like J.K. Simmons and enjoy his animated facial expressions…I have all the DVDs of the the 5 seasons and am looking forward to receiving season 6 this June when it is out. Would like to see it continue with the same characters…….great show … thanks for bringing it to us….

The best show on TV…so sad to see it end…Kyra is terrific and the character ensemble is great. Keep going as long as you can! TV is a great desert with little to make you tune in on a regular basis…Cthe Closer was worth staying home to see!

I love this show and would hate to see it end. I hope that a spin off would be as great as the current one. It would be difficult to replace Kyra, but there are other wonderful actresses out there. I love the whole cast of characters. They really work well together.

Altogether, just let it end and start the spin off. The Closer has a great cast of characters and they all deserve to keep working even though Kyra does not want to anymore.

I just want to see the series continue. Although I love Kyla and will miss her I really think there is a lot of substance to the other characters and they deserve to go to another series.

It would be great if they grouped them all together and just ended it. Don’t prolong the end of a great show. Curious to see if the proposed spin-off will work. Will they sometimes bring Brenda back? Either way I wish all the actors great luck and blessings
