Premiering in 1973, The Exorcist became one of the most successful movies in history. But, how’s The Exorcist TV show that’s airing on the FOX network doing? Will this TV series be long remembered or quickly forgotten? Will it run for many seasons or will it be cancelled? Cancel or keep it?
The Exorcist TV show follows two very different priests. Father Tomas Ortega (Alfonso Herrera) is progressive, ambitious and compassionate. Meanwhile, Father Marcus Keane (Ben Daniels) is relentless, abrasive and utterly consumed by his mission. Together, they tackle a family’s case of a horrifying demonic possession. The series also stars Kurt Egyiawan, Geena Davis, Alan Ruck, Brianne Howey, and Hannah Kasulka.
Debuting on September 23rd, The Exorcist attracted a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.85 million viewers. That was a disappointing start in the ratings, even for a Friday night series. And the numbers have gotten worse.
In week two, the demo rating dropped 40%, falling to a 0.6 rating with 1.976 million viewers. The later episodes rose to a 0.7 in the demo but total viewership has remained about the same, never cracking two million.
Unfortunately, with such poor ratings, The Exorcist will surely be cancelled. It’s hard to imagine that FOX execs would order any more episodes or even consider making a second season of the series. Hopefully the 13th and likely final episode will bring the show’s small audience some sense of closure.

Keep the show!! I don’t understand why all shows dealing with God or bringing someone from darkness into the light always get cancelled. This is the only show I look forward to seeing every Friday! Don’t cancel it.

I love the Exorcist TV show. I look forward to Friday nights to watch it. I don’t see a lot of advertising for the show. So people may not know when and what channel the show is on. Please don’t cancel. I’m sure the ratings will pick up.
i have watched this show every Friday Fox would be crazy to cancel watch the show there was a surprise on it just recently i don’t want to spoil it for anyone maybe moving it to a night where it has a strong lead or put it on at an early time on Friday………just give this show a chance……. but networks keep these awful reality show on the exorcist is a lot better show than i thought it would be…i would recommend this series if you love the movie The Exorcist its a lot better than Exorcist II The Heretic,this… Read more »
Keep it! Brilliant series & after episode 5 I’m hooked & cant wait to see the rest. I for one will be gutted if fox cancels it.
sad really its well done for network esp. Good acting great writing and cinematography. Decent ratings with Rotten Tomatoes and other sites IMDV has at a 8.3 out of ten. I dont think its advertised well esp on social media and net.
The Exorcist is awesome, crazy good! Fox is nuts if they cancel this amazing show! All my friends watch it. I belong to several groups on Facebook and the buzz is great! People are excited about the show! Fox needs to keep what will surely be a cult favorite.
