It’s never a good sign when some of the staff of a struggling show take on other jobs. That’s just what’s happened with some of the personnel from FOX’s Human Target and NBC’s The Cape.
According to Deadline, Human Target’s executive producer, Brad Kern, has been hired as the executive producer and showrunner of ABC’s dramatic pilot called Poe. The series follows the adventures of Edgar Allen Poe, a macabre writer and “the world’s first detective,” as he uses unconventional methods to solve dark mysteries in Boston during the 1840s. Kern also previously ran Charmed for The WB.
Meanwhile, The Cape’s showrunner, John Wirth, has been tapped as executive producer and showrunner for The CW’s drama pilot called Cooper & Stone. This project follows two young female detectives from Chicago’s North Side. They’re best friends who discuss fashion and pop-culture while solving homicides. Wirth was previously a co-showrunner on FOX’s Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Neither Human Target nor The Cape have been officially cancelled. However, The Cape’s episode order was recently cut and the show’s ratings continue to fall so its widely considered to be doomed.
Human Target’s future isn’t as clear. The show had a disappointing season, averaging a 1.7 in the 18-49 demographic and 6.4 million viewers. That’s down 24% in the demo when compared to last season’s average. On the positive side, the series’ ratings picked up in the last few weeks and endured several schedule changes so there’s still a small chance that it could return for season three. We’ll know by May.
What do you think? If you had to choose between Human Target and The Cape, which would you chose?
Please keep Human Target. It is a fantastic program with exceptional actors/actresses. I love The Cape as well but if there is only one choice it would be Human Target
Oh please, save them both! I love The Cape more, but Human Target is wonderful as well. I guess I’m just a loser as far as TV execs are concerned, because all my favorite shows get canceled, but I make over 100K/year and spend all of it. Isn’t that worth something to you guys?
I have enjoyed Human Target since the first episode. My husband became a fan at a later time. We love it. Don’t cancel the show.
Thank you!
Human Target has changed a lot, but we’re OK with the attempts to enrich the show with female actors. Shows, like audiences, evolve. It’s still good clean fun and not a REALITY TV show, which we simply do not watch – EVER! That said, the Cape, however should not be cut either. What a great original storyline. There is always room for improvement (and I don’t refer to the creation of endless story arcs), but I think the basic oh-so-human ‘super hero’ approach is absolutely refreshing. But then I am not the typical viewer. I suppose that producers (or, should… Read more »
This is why I don’t watch TV. I can’t tell you how many shows I’ve gotten interested in just to see them killed. Well I can tell you a few. Trauma, Firefly, almost everything on Comedy Network, Do yourself a favor just watch hulu then you can discover tons of great series and enjoy them knowing they are cancelled.
The way Japan does it is they tell a story in 9-18 episodes and that’s it. I like that
Save BOTH shows! They are two of the best shows on right now. My mother and I don’t always agree on broadcast channel shows but these 2 we agree are at the top of the list. Please give them a fighting chance. Ten episodes is a drop in the bucket for The Cape.
Thank you.
We like Human Target and would hate to see it go off the air. Every time a decent show comes on, off it goes. Leave decent shows on tv!!
My husband and I both like the Human Target show. It’s one of the better shows on the air. We like all the characters and the plots.
I like both shows I hate to see either show go. Why is it when a decent show comes on the networks always have to cancel the show. Human Target is probably the better of the two shows at it has more twists and turns and more of a plot. It is a show that my wife and I both like and look forward to watching. It isn’t fair when a show gets bounced from a regular time slot. What do you expect to happen when you shuffle the show around. In fact we missed one of the 2hr episodes… Read more »
I think the first seaon was better–without the women. Although they are talented, the show had a certain uniqueness the first season. I would like to see Human Target come back for a third season without the women or at least with more focus on only Guerreo, Winston, and Chance.
Save cape its barely even begun change the time slot and give it a chance to live.
I think that Human Target is one of the best shows out there, it would be a shame to lose it.
I’m one for a 3rd season. I think it’s true in the beginning of season 2 with the shows changes compared to season 1, it lost a little of the original signature projection, with Chance doing most of the work. As the audience adjusted to the new direction relating and accepting the new character changes the show once caught the audience. A 3rd season would show that acceptance by increased ratings. Give it a ‘Chance’…
Human Target is one of the best shows on TV. FOX should put it on Mondays at 9:00.
As for The Cape, it is the only show on NBC that I watch.
Save Human Target if only one can be saved.
Human Target has many characteristics (for lack of a better word) that most TV shows today definitely lack in: character dynamic, character depth, a seemless combination of action and comedy, plus impressive stuntwork and special FX. It would be a huge mistake on Fox’s part to scrap such an incredible show with so much potential – Chance and his crew were just getting started.
