Angels Memorial is closing its doors. CBS has cancelled its Code Black TV show after three seasons. Creator and showrunner Michael Seitzman has already confirmed the Code Black cancellation. Although the production utilized the extraordinary measures of amputating some original series regulars (Raza Jaffrey and Bonnie Somerville) and grafting on a big name (Rob Lowe), the patient eventually succumbed to acute ratings anemia.
A CBS medical drama, Code Black stars Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, Moon Bloodgood, and Lowe. The story unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — home of the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The high patient volume dwarfs the resources available to the exceptional staff — creating a condition known as Code Black.
According to Seitzman despite the cancellation, the third season should continue to air in its regular timeslot. Because he expected the there would be no season four, it seems the team wrote the season three finale to serve as a series finale. Check out what he has to say, below.
Code Black: A Look at the Ratings
The third season of Code Black, which just kicked off on April 25th, is averaging a 0.71 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.448 million viewers. Compared to season two, that’s down by about 26% and 9%, respectively.
Of the 27 scripted CBS TV shows we’ve been tracking during the regular 2017-18 television season, Code Black ranks 23rd in the demo. That number only rises to 21st, when we sort by average total audience. In other words, the cancellation makes business sense.
EP Michael Seitzman Confirms Code Black Has Been Cancelled by CBS
Making sure to thank the fans, Seitzman, whose Quantico on ABC also fell prey to the Television Vulture, announced Code Black will not return for season four. Check out what he has to say about the remaining episodes and anticipating the need for a Code Back TV series finale.

We always suspected this would be the last season. We wrote it to end that way. https://t.co/AByfkZ5Da0

What do you think? Are you a fan of the Code Black TV series? If it were up to you, would it be cancelled or renewed for season four on CBS? Sound off in the comments.
I am really upset that Code Black is cancelled…I loved this show…it seems like they cancel all the good shows…what is wrong with these producers anyway…
I loved the show and wish it wasn’t cancelled. I want another season. Bring on season four!!
Really sad. We love Code Black. Best medical show on TV by far. Too bad someone else didn’t pick it up. CBS you disappoint.
code blACK WAS MY FAVORITE TV SHOW AND I WILL MISS IT I WOULD LIKE VERY MUCH IF WOULD CONTUE THE SERRIES THYE AEEM TO CANCLE ALL THE GOOD SHOWS AND COME ULP WITH A BUCH OF CRAP TO REPLACE THEM. I EXPECT THEM TO CANCEL ELEMENTARY NEXT AND T THINK I SHALL JUST SHUT TO TV OFF EXCEPT FOR THE NEWS AND THE WEATHER.
I don’t think they should have cancelled it. They go by live ratings and 3 day viewings of DVR. What about people that watch on the CBS app? I don’t get the chance to watch them that night. So I usually watch 2 shows at once. So sad that they take away a great show.
Why is it that every time CBS produces a very good show with a great story line that deals with very ordinary people dealing with LIFE and all of it’s confusion and illnesses, each episode reminds people of how they are not alone in their fears and pain and heartaches. Please reconsider cancelling Code Black you do have the power.
Code Black is one of my favorites. I’m glad they did such a good job of wrapping it up in the finale.
Great writing, great cast.
Code Black is one of my favorite shows. To hear it was cancelled is just wrong! It seems the only shows that stay are those asinine reality shows.
A show with heart and soul. There are so few of those now a days. Rob Lowe’s character has caused me to watch this show again and it is phenomenal. Maybe another network will pick it up. It surely deserves better ratings than it has gotten. Maybe the “Better Angels” are watching over it.
Code Black, should not have been Cancelled!! It was a good hospital show and the only show too watch after Seal Team or TKO! Why don’t you take off Big Brother “which sucks” or “Survivor”!!
PLEASE DO NOT DISCONTINUE! This is one of the best television shows on late night tv.
Code Black should NEVER have been cancelled! To me it was the BEST show on Wednesday nights. The story lines, the characters, EVERYTHING about this show was perfect! Please let another network pick it up! It does not deserve its fate! I will miss this show SO much.
Please don’t cancel code black . This television series is the best out of all the medical dramas on television. Cancel Chicago med instead. Our entire family has chosen Code Black as there favourite of all time. If you cancel this show we hope someone smarter picks it up. Absolutely love this show
One of the best shows CBS came out with, should be a crime to cancel a show like that.
It would have done better in a good time slot and put in the fall season. Going to miss this show extremely
I am so very sorry to hear CBS will not be renewing Code Black. I can truly say it is the one show that I make time for each week. I don’t know who makes the decisions, and I don’t know if they would reconsider, but I think they have made a mistake in cancelling this series. The characters were cast very well, and the show did an excellent job at displaying the compassion and strength that the professionals in the real medical world need to go through their jobs daily. I hate to see this show go, and I… Read more »
