Published: September 19, 2016

Dark Matter TV show on Syfy: ratings (cancel or renew for season 3?)The shipmates on Dark Matter continue to learn about their true identities and they are complicated, to say the least. Will viewers want to stick around to get all of the answers? How will this Canadian show perform in the ratings? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a third season? Stay tuned.

On Dark Matter, the crew of a derelict spaceship is awakened from stasis with no memories of who they are or how they got on board. The show’s cast includes Marc Bendavid, Melissa O’Neil, Anthony Lemke, Alex Mallari Jr, Jodelle Ferland, Roger Cross, Zoie Palmer, Melanie Liburd, and Shaun Sipos.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.

Great show. Love the jail break, it’s the best one I can recall seeing in any movie or TV show. Escape From Alcatraz (Seigel/Eastwood), no comparison! The android is great!. I especially love the way the crew bonds out of necessity – no sentimentality or hand-wringing like Star Trek series. Perfect example of the concept Being Determines Consciousness. Definitely should be renewed.

The second season will be it’s last, unless there is a miracle and the writers figure out what the majority of sci-fi fans want to watch, cause this isn’t it, and the ratings prove it!

All that proves is nielsen viewers aren’t watching it live, the ratings doesn’t say anything about dvr, on-demand or online viewing. Neilsen ratings are going down 20-50% a year with most scripted shows. The Online forums and buzz is just as active this year with this show

Hahaha…online forums are filled with those who like the show, that’s the only reason they are active. The vast majority of fans who have changed the channel don’t spend time on the forums. And it is common practice for loyal fans to flood online forums to try and save their show, but it never works…never! But the numbers don’t lie and the majority of science fiction fans, simply aren’t watching this series. And you’re wrong about it not saying anything about DVR. Networks have been tracking DVR ratings for a long time and including them in their own ratings….here’s how it… Read more »

Haha. Online forums are filled with people who don’t like the show. OK, you discussed dvr viewing but they aren’t listed on this feed. Online and ONdemand ratings aren’t listed most of the time on any website. Most Scripted shows, not just syfy are down on neilsen ratings 20-40% a year. So it’s just not this show or network… Most younger demographics are dropping cable altogether and watching it later on netflix or streaming it on syfy.com

People who don’t like the show make their position known on online forums, then move on as they stop following the series. They don’t stay and whine all season, as the fans do, claiming it is the best they’ve ever watched… Lol. And if you think negative comments about the series means it’s popular and should demonstrate to the network that it needs renewal, then you certainly don’t understand how business works. You seem to be missing the point. Networks already take into account the DVR viewings, they don’t have to post them here cause they owe you no explanation.… Read more »

I think you are missing my point. Most scripted shows are falling 20-40% year to year on neilsen ratings. So Dark Matter is in-line with most scripted shows. Most people i talk to about this show watch it online or a month or more after the original airing.

You have no point as far as this show tanking in the ratings and approaching cancellation. If ALL scripted shows were dropping by 20-40%, without exception, then you could say the declining numbers were just because of online viewing. But because they AREN’T ALL dropping in the ratings, it is due to individual content, and currently the networks have a batch of poor concepts and bad story lines to work with, hence a lot of them declining, but not all. Everyone you know, amounts to a percentage of the viewing public that is so tiny it’s insignificant to even a… Read more »

I get what you are saying. But look over the 200-250 scripted shows on neilsen ratings with cable, broadcast and premium. Over 90% are dropping 20-40% year to year in neilsen ratings. Even new shows that have high reviews by critics are starting low on neilsen ratings. The amount of viewers of that are watching live shows are dropping and the amount of people are watching online is going up. Advertisers are putting products in the show with in-product placement, they are finding a way to sell there product without neilsen ratings/

What you’re also missing is that without advertisers funding TV series, none would be made, do their satisfaction is what produces the programing. And by you or your friends watching them pirated online, you are helping to kill your favorite series. What you have to ask yourself is…why is this series one that you really don’t care if you watch it a week or a month later?? Answer! Because it isn’t good enough for people to want to watch it live! When a series is captivating, fans can’t wait for the next episode and never miss it airing live even… Read more »

The biggest problem with Dark Matter, and the one which the majority of complaints revolve around (myself included), is that for a series that’s inherently set in space, there has yet to have been a single space battle. Throughout 16 episodes total thus far, we’ve seen an occasional missile or single weapon shot being fired, but no actual space battles. In fact, during a few episodes of Season 1, enemy ships have dropped out of hyperspace ready for a confrontation… and then nothing happened, because the Raza crew decided to stand down or flee instead of actually fight. There has… Read more »

Well, If the time slot and the day were different, I think it would make a difference. Also if they don`t already, Re-run the episodes thru the week in different time slots, so others will watch and get to know the characters. So far I like this season better. Yes 5! , Kill them all. Very good writing!

Time slot has little to do with the ratings tanking because they also log DVR viewings, which were watched within a certain number of hours and also days! It’s tanking because the storyline isn’t keeping the fans loyal!

Loved season one. So far, two episodes into season two, I am thinking “Dark Matter” one of the worse shows on television. Season two has been slow, plodding, bloated, and not very interesting. If the acting was any more stiff, I would believe that the characters are being portrayed by mannequins. I sure hope season two shapes up… quickly.

The fate of honest and noble people is death. If he is dead why would they go after his wife killer, 3 is a known mercenary why would he care if he is wanted for another crime on a planet far away. So that whole story line would have been a waste of time.

His story is really interesting as his character. If an actor Marc Bendavid declined over that role, they could hire an actor Dan Jeannotte or someone else for the role. (Plastic surgery can make whatever you want)

I am equally happy to see One eliminated (my favorite word for him is Milquetoast), but I’m perfectly happy for the tougher criminal to take his place. The only problem is he’s going to have a very hard time acting like the pushover that One was if he ever has to fool his imprisoned shipmates again.I’m thinking Jace Corso (the real criminal) will just take over where Derrick Moss (our dear departed One) left off. Honestly, Derrick was much too milquetoast for my taste anyway. I look forward to the actor, Marc Bendavid, toughening up in his new incarnation.

Any sci-fi series that has nothing but psychopaths as the main characters won’t last. You have to have a balance of personalities that hold the interest of the science fiction fans that want to cheer for the good guy. This principle has been proven many times. During the third season of Battle Star Galactica the writers decided to..”taint” everyone, as they called it. Essentially giving them undesirable traits turning everyone into an unlikable character. IT DEVASTATED the ratings! The producers admitted later that they LOST THEIR FAN BASE during season three. And they split season four in half, whuch they… Read more »

Are you 100% sure that Derrick Moss is dead?
He could be, but he was suspicious about motivations of the people running his company, and the world does have the ability to create temporary clones, so I’m not 100% sure he’s dead.

A 0.20 was the worst rating Dark Matter did all of its first season. It’s first episode in season two was a 0.20 How does this bode for the future? We’ll find out.
