What do you think? Do you like the Dark Matter TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a third season?
I love this show. I’m not sad about One’s death. He was the stereotype of the nice guy who think to be better than everyone else. I really love all the rest of the crew. I enjoy the season 2, hope the show will be renewed for a third season.
This season they are talking about a weapon capable of opening wormholes through time. Maybe they will go back and save One(season 3), who knows.
PLEASE ATTATCH “SPOILER ALERT” TO THE FRONT OF COMMENTS LIKE THIS! Come one, ppl, use your head!
Why are you reading comments about this week’s episode if you havent watched it yet?
Being a Sci Fi fan, I’m always looking for good new shows to watch. Dark Matter is a great show with a great cast. There’s no vampires or werewolves, but a group of people who have interesting personalities who can act and it’s set in the future with the typical space ships and space stations….I guess it’s more realistic then a lot of other newer Sci Fi shows out there.
Jace Corso: I didn’t kill him just because he stole my face. I was paid. Two: I already know. It was Traugott that tried to kill all of us in prison. Jace Corso: You’re wrong. You don’t know anything. If you want revenge, if you want the people really responsible, you have to keep me alive. Two: You’re the one who pulled the trigger. For now, that’s good enough. A stone cold killer can be a coward. Killing someone for kicks or money doesn’t make you brave. In fact most criminals are really pretty cowardly.
They’re all psychopaths, who lie, steal, cheat, threaten and betray one another and murder people without the slightest remorse. This is how writers depict the supposed heroes for which the fans are to cheer for in a scripted science fiction drama today. They are only admired by a minority of fans that find those character traits appealing, and it definitely isn’t the majority, hence the ratings. How far have we fallen in our characterization of who fans should admire and root for. And the studios then wonder why they can’t keep the majority of science fiction fans on board and… Read more »
Thank God for great sci fi at last !! I also love Marcus and ONE. Their stories are awesome! Each character has a backstory that is unique and intriguing.I hope the show continues to grow with new ideas, I know good things don’t last for ever, but whatever the Story Arc, I’m hoping that the shows ends with closure.
TV series “Dark Matter” is going global on Syfy ! It will air on Syfy in 87 countries, including the U.S.A, U.K., France, Germany, Spain and Australia. Regions where it plays on the channel include Adria, Asia, Australia, Benelux, Brazil, France, Germany, Latin America, Poland, Portugal, Spain, UK and USA. This series watch several million of viewers around the world !!! Awesome TV Show for the whole world = Dark Matter.
Right now this show is averaging a 0.16 per show. So the plan for SYFY is to show a show in 87 different countries and have it get crappy live ratings in 87 different countries but add them all together and say it’s doing great? Sounds like something the Democrats would come up with. I guess that’s what happened with 12 Monkeys and Wynonna Earp.
International TVshow,… Doesn’t get it! Dark Matter will live or die with the US ratings. Networks sell every series they can to other countries, and the revenue from those airings is not great because advertisers in those countries pay a far lower rate for their ads than American Advertisers. They do not total all the viewers together to present a higher number, because US Advertisers know those viewers aren’t watching their ads, and the networks in those countries also take a share of the revenue, leaving a much lower return. Plus there is no reason to believe that a series… Read more »
Are you serious ? They wrote this (see link) :

What is it ? Mirage ? Illusion ?
Media hype is advertising ny the studios to try and create an interest in the series, the real truth is in the trend in viewership. That camn be seen in what’s happened to the ratimgs since the premier episode for season 2? Premier episodes don’t represent the entire season, nor it’s ability to get another season. Premier episodes ALWAYS get more viewers, those who are curious where the story will go and if it’s worth watching. A consistent decline in following episodes tells the real story of the acceptability of the storyline for the viewers, and how likely it will… Read more »
A little information for you:
Stargate Universe – Created by: Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper
Dark Matter – Created by: Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie
Perhaps you didn’t understand me when I said that the creators of Dark Matter wrote the episodes for SGU. I did not say they CREATED SGU. Maybe check out a few facts before correcting someone. Robert Cooper and Brad Wright wrote a total of 12 episodes of SGU between them, including the three episode premier. Joseph and Paul wrote the other 24 episodes between them. Therefore they wrote the majority of all the episodes for SGU…get it!! And the ones they wrote brought the most negative reaction from science fiction fans, and contributed the most to sinking the series. That’s… Read more »
Joseph Mallozzi & Paul Mullie – they wrote 12 (the best episodes) out of 40 episodes.(Stargate Universe)
The best episodes eh??? That’s obviously why the fans walked away from the series right, cause they were the best episodes…lol.
They would have never gotten two seasons if they didn’t have a deal for two in the beginning.
Perhaps you don’t remember the online battle between Mallozzi and science fiction fans, and critics by the way, who were complaining about the series?
I guess they did that cause he wrote the…”best episodes”… Hahaha!
Well I take it this will be your last post here then. Just doesn’t seem like your kind of show.
Unlikely Iliesku! A little reality needs to filter down through all this hype. This show is heading the wrong direction in the ratings, due to content, and nothing else. All the whiners who claim it’s the time slot, or that they aren’t factoring in DVR viewers, or online viewers, or that it’s being shown in other countries, isn’t going to make one bit of difference, if they don’t present story lines that appeal to the MAJORITY of science fiction fans. The minority of science fiction fans who come on here and drool all over themselves about how wonderful it is,… Read more »
So, on July 29 you wrot, and I quote: “People who don’t like the show make their position known on online forums, then move on as they stop following the series.” In response to someone who said online forums were filled of people who talk bad about the show.
And yet here you are. Still watching a show you obiously hate and commenting on it.
No… I’m not watching the series. I only watched half an episode of the second season, two or three, can’t remember which as the series hasn’t been worth watching. I also never watched all of the first season as it wasn’t worth it either. So what’s your point? Are you whining because I continue to comment and spoil your Dark Matter love in…lol. And my statement was accurate. Far more science fiction fans have left this series since the beginning (RATINGS prove it) than are still watching it. And yet far more groopie fans of Dark Matter are still commenting… Read more »
My sole point for this comment was to call you out on the crap you wrote.
Claiming people that don’t like it make their dislike known and then move on.
You obviously haven’t moved on at all, because even though it is a show you hate and allegedly don’t even watch you are still one of the most active commenters here.
Well in that case Nevar…you have no point! You’re not ..calling me out on anything…Your griping about my posting is just your way of whining. What I posted was completely accurate, far more people on here are the groupies who continue to express their undying love for it, and those who aren’t have moved on…….Did I say it was 100%…not at all, so your ridiculous position that I shouldn’t post either is just childish. And I have never once said I hate this series…I said it wasn’t worth watching, and the majority of science fiction fans agree with me because… Read more »
For something you allegedly don’t hate but just think it isn’t worth watching you invest a great deal of energy and time posting negatively about it here. And stating “the show will get canceled” and “the majority” would have walked away is far from “the truth”. Or can you tell me how you go about determining this so often called upon “majority”? It is true that ratings have gone down from season one, but they still are more than half of what it had back then, so your “majority” can’t come from there. Apart from that, for the last Episode… Read more »
So what’s your problem? You are concerned about my time management..???. Hahaha! Very kind of you, but you’re also spending your time aren’t you, and I couldn’t care less. Or are you just whining about me stating the obvious. Perhaps you shouldn’t cherry pick comments to support your clains of what I said. I said it would be cancelled if the ratings don’t improve…that is A FACT, NOT AN OPINION. . You are living in a fairytale if you think ALL SCIENCE FICTION FANS started watching this series and over half still are…lol Unless you don’t realize it, the ratings… Read more »
I’m not at all concerned about your time management, you can spend it however you want. I’m saying for something you say isn’t worth watching you spend an awful lot of time here and seem to be quite emotionally invested. Even if the ratings do not improve it still isn’t a “fact” it won’t get renewed and I’m not living in a fairytale world when I say this. Look at 12 Monkeys, also on Syfy. It averaged not even half of its first season in season 2, still it got renewed. The thing with the majority is not as easy… Read more »
Scifi fans watch trailers, it’s called advertising or haven’t you heard about that. A trailer gives any fan an idea if it is of interest to them, that’s why trailers are made. i it appeals tp them they watch a couple episodes, then dump it. Which had been the recipe for much of the scripted drama on SYFY. And for someone who says they aren’t concerned about how much time I spend on this forum, you sure whine about it an awful lot….lol As far as emotional investment. You’ve got that wrong. I’m not the one crying because of anyone… Read more »
You seem to have a strange obsession with the words crying and whining, projecting it into anything you read and don’t like. I’m not “whining” about your time spent here, I point out that your actions and your words contradict each other. You say this show isn’t worth watching and you are not emotionally invested, yet you are here, commenting on posts of people that like the show all the time, having accumulated more posts than any fan of the show here, writing lengthy replys to my posts, even to one that wasn’t even adressed at you, etc. Your actions… Read more »
If you don’t care how much time I spend here, why do you continue to whine about it. You’ve brought it up three times now, and then still say you don’t care…lol. Likewise now you complain about the length of my posts…that’s WHINING by the way, and yet you are posting long posts too…lol. Talk about being confused..hahaha. Why do you think studios produce trailers??? To give the fans a taste of the series to try and interest them…that’s their purpose and that’s what potential science fiction fans look at to determine their interest…. Simple as that. And you still… Read more »
Pointing out you are contradicting your words by your actions ins NOT whining or even complaining. You said the show isn’t worth watching and you were not emotionally invested in this, still you write lengthy emotionally charged comments here all the time. This is in total contradiction. Pointing this out is NOT whining or complaining, it’s showing that you are full of it. I already gave you the example of 12 Monkeys, running on the same channel, whichs ratings didn’t improve, despite being worse when compared to its first season than Dark Matter AND STILL GOT RENEWED. So no, you… Read more »
I’ve already pointed out that networks look at trends, not just numbers. If a series is stable, even with low numbers it has a dedicated audience. If it is trending down they know the series is in trouble and advertisers are reluctant to put their advertising budget behind it as it’s losing fans. And you ARE WHINING!! over the most ridiculous things as when people should stop commenting, and how much time I spend on here…is all WHINING, as neither one are any of your business! I’m not the one insinuating words into another’s post as you have been doing.… Read more »
Never. Please, ignore Mervyn Bjorn and persons similar to him. Let them write what they want. Do not waste your time on them. I LOVE DARK MATTER !!!
Well said Vladimir! If you don’t like someone’s comment about the series, and you love it, then ignore the comment, don’t attack the person for stating their opinion. Nor insinuate your own bias into their comments which they never said, it only degrades from your post. Attacking a person with hatred and vulgarity because they don’t like what you like is childish and immature. I at no time have said anyone else should change their opinion about the series. What a person likes to watch is part of their personality make up and maturity in their viewing choices and, and… Read more »
Since you aren’t very current on what fans like for science fiction, here’s a little proof of the continued popularity of classic science fiction. Any day of the week, you can find reruns of either Star trek, Star Trek TNG, Voyager, Stargate SG1, and Atlantis. Classic science fiction is still drawing enough of an audience up to 20 years later since cancellation to warrent being rerun, over and over because there’s an audience for it. That isn’t the case for virtually any of the crappy science fiction dramas you claim the public want to watch. If they wanted to watch… Read more »
The big and crucial difference between reruns and new shows ist, that reruns cost no money to produce, so there is really no risk involved in airing them and there will be income no matter how many people watch it.
Without having ratings for these reruns this really proves nothing.
Wrong, on all counts! Networks won’t play reruns if no one is watching. You don’t have a clue how the system works. Every rerun has to have a sponsor that is willing to advertise on that program. They only do that if there is an audience they believe will watch their adds. If your ridiculous scenario were true, then networks would be running reruns of all the cancelled scifi series all the time….and THEY AREN’T, because advertisers know there is no audience for their adds. The only continuous reruns of science fiction are the classics with traditional science fiction content… Read more »
This is a wonderful syfy series, and really the best , most intelligent syfy series since STNG .The universe they have created is fun and exciting. The characters are all excellent, and really surprised by the great acting. Please give us a third Season !!!!!!!!
Yep, that’s why the ratings are tanking and science fiction fans are changing the channel! Perhaps it’s a matter of discernment of what really good science fiction is, compared to something that’s a soap opera!
SyFy won’t listen to the fans who want a third season, if the ratings don’t improve so that advertisers want to continue to fund a third season.
By the way, which relative or friend do you have who is working in the series?
[Dom Stone] “Rating tanking, doubt a season three, should have never killed off a main character, no space battles or mercenary jobs which was what this show was all about, turned into a soap opera…to bad had great potential…” Syfy might still renew it. They renewed 12 Monkeys for Season 3, despite the poor Season 2 ratings (it averaged roughly 400k an episode in Season 2, which is much less than Dark Matter and Killjoys are averaging right now). I do agree with you on a lot of your points though. Apparently there will be a space battle coming up… Read more »
Never say never.Nothing is impossible. How to return Derrick(One) in season 3 (idea). [FIVE] I took it from some mark on a space station. It’s a key that allows someone to access pockets of inter-dimensional space-time.(they think it’s a very good idea) Puzzle, mystery, enigma.
Episode 18: We Voted Not To Space You. It was a great episode and the Android was awesome! (Oh, and I think my husband is in love with an android.) Loved having ‘Six’ back! Loving the new season. Characters are developing nicely and the cast look they are really starting to get used to each other.
Loved Two’s strength & leadership. Another amazing episode !!
I agree. Love what they are doing with the android! Im not warming up too much to the new characters yet, but we will see. Still love the show anyhow & the hour goes by too quickly. All this whining about them killing off a character cracks me up. Big deal. Who knows, the actor could have wanted to move on or they may may have needed the actor to move on. We dont knows what is going on behind the scenes on a set. Again, big deal. He is not the only actor on the show.
I used to like this show. Then they killed off Marc Bendavid’s character. He was pretty much the reason I was interested at the beginning. I stuck around because the writers said Bendavid might come back. I was treated to a bunch of new characters who were absolutely TERRIBLE beyond belief. Bendavid is gone permanently. The show’s storyline is awful. I’m dome. Good riddance.
Rating tanking, doubt a season three, should have never killed off a main character, no space battles or mercenary jobs which was what this show was all about, turned into a soap opera…to bad had great potential…
Apparently there will be a space battle coming up in a later Season 2 episode, but for a space-based series to go roughly 22 episodes before having a REAL space battle… it’s really disappointing. Same problem with Killjoys — no space battles yet. And I also agree that at times, it does kind of feel like a soap opera because of the lack of action…
S02E04 “We Were Family”. Strong strong strooong episode after the relatively weak one last week I have to say. A lot of very interesting character development and plot points. Also, Nyx’ British accent is hilarious. It also seems Twyx is not gonna happen and the Fyx is in instead.Three once again shows he’s quite complex, also, willing to kill in front of a small kid.Great episode for sure, maybe my favorite so far. Three is becoming my favorite character.
Android was funny in this episode(Victor: “May I kiss y-” Android: “OKAY!”), good to see more of three’s background but I missed his jokes. Don’t like Nyx so far. Devon as the drugged doctor is too cliche for me. Glad to see six up and about.
Great episode.
Love the android story line !
Season 2 Episode 3 Marcus:It just so happens that.I know a black market serillium operation that’d be happy to have them. They’re always looking for new people. Emily: You can’t do that.Marcus: No? Emily: This is what I’ve been trying to tell you. You’re not like this anymore. You’re not cruel, vicious people who would sell someone into slavery just because they’re inconvenient. Marcus: It’s not just because you’re inconvenient. It’s also for the money. Emily: Please, this isn’t you. Portia: Get her out of here. Emily:No.Please. Marcus:Come on. Can’t believe they killed off one of the best characters right in the start of season two. I know some people love that stuff, but I for one am now finished with the show. One of the risks of killing off mains I guess. 🙁
I cant believe they just killed off One like that. He was not only an integral part of the group but he also played an important part in the group dynamic itself. He wasnt some side character. He was part of the main cast and together with Two and Three, a decision maker. I mean Five is a kid, Six is undercover and not interested in leadership and Four is sort of always doing his own thing. One was a major player and he provided a nice counterbalance to the criminal elements on the show and most importantly, his story… Read more »
Aside from the skewing of the dynamic and the loss of storyline potential(the who murdered his wife story loses so much without him), the biggest gripe I have is the timing of it. They kill him at the point he realises he can’t really investigate the his wife death as CEO as people are actively covering their tracks. So faking his death so as to prevent his inquests from being blocked is a logical course of action(a plot point that shouldn’t be a fake-out or a next episode one at worst) but then they go and clearly shoot him in… Read more »
Strange reason to stop watching a show, but to each his own. I can see if there were only 2 main characters and one got killed off (for instance, if they had killed off Liz on the Blacklist, the show would have been done). If you are really so into that guy, that him leaving the show makes you stop watching it, keep in mind that it looked like they are probably going to still feature him in future episodes…just as the bad guy who’s original identity he stole.
Actor who played One was causing problems on set, had a negative reputation for being difficult and his behavior was causing delays ( cost overruns) during filming.Lots of shows sadly have to ax people, even with tough writing choices, or inconsistent ones, because they simply cannot be on the set anymore, it’s too difficult to have them there.
