Dark Matter: Season Two Ratings

Published: September 19, 2016

Dark Matter TV show on Syfy: ratings (cancel or renew for season 3?)The shipmates on Dark Matter continue to learn about their true identities and they are complicated, to say the least. Will viewers want to stick around to get all of the answers? How will this Canadian show perform in the ratings? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a third season? Stay tuned.

On Dark Matter, the crew of a derelict spaceship is awakened from stasis with no memories of who they are or how they got on board. Facing threats at every turn, they have to work together to survive a voyage charged with vengeance, betrayal and hidden secrets. The show’s cast includes Marc Bendavid, Melissa O’Neil, Anthony Lemke, Alex Mallari Jr, Jodelle Ferland, Roger Cross, Zoie Palmer, Melanie Liburd, and Shaun Sipos.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.

9/1 update: Dark Matter has been renewed for a third season. Details here.

Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.

For comparisons: The first season of Dark Matter on Syfy averaged a 0.24 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.01 million viewers.

I stated more than a year ago that this series would be cancelled and of course was attacked by the faithful. They were’t reaching the majority of the fan base, just as Mallozzi did with Stargate SGU which also died early. And I said it too would not be renewed after watching the first episode when their two year contract was up, but the faithful plug their ears and throw stones. Dark Matter has now followed it into oblivion because the writers and producers didn’t spend the time to understand what the majority of sci-fi fans want to watch, (THE… Read more »

Great show. Unfortunately I have to watch after the original has aired. Real science fiction fans do not worry about live ratings.

They aren’t making 24 episodes of this show EVER. You’ll be lucky to get 10 next season. The ratings on this show DROPPED, just like Killjoys and 12 Monkeys season two ratings DROPPED. This show could drop into 12 Monkeys season two ratings area next season. If that happens. They better CANCEL it. This is how you DON’T run a network.

What you write ? The ratings on this show DROPPED. Yes,in USA. International ratings are much better than in the season 1 !!! Rating are good. Ratings are great. Canadian show so good that international viewers don’t know its Canadian. Top TV Shows = Made in Canada !
Dark Matter info: 1.Genre – Space opera 2.Created by – Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie 3.Based on: Dark Matter series of comics 4.Country of origin – Canada 5.Production company – Prodigy Pictures Inc 6.Original network – Space http://www.space.ca/shows/

You realize that if you want to start including International ratings, then you’re talking about a few million people compared to the billions and billions of people on this planet. is a show worth saving that gets maybe 10 million viewers(if it’s lucky) when there are hundreds of billions of people on the planet? One answer: NO WAY!

Of course when taking international ratings into account you can only count the countrys it is actually aired, not every single person on this planet from toddler to old man, which are by the way not “billions and billions” but about 7.4, from which probably half or more even don’t have access to a TV..

So SYFY renewing shows with a 0.12,0.13, 0.17 and 0.18 is acceptable to you? When 3 of the 4 shows saw their ratings drop in season two? People would get FIRED for even suggesting renewing shows at this level in the past. Would you eat food that the quality keeps dropping on? The bottom is a 0.00 SYFY never had shows with ratings this pathetic until recently. I guess ratings don’t matter to you. Start your own crappy network.

Indeed they don’t. At all.
My enjoyment of a show got nothing to do with how much other people enjoy it or how much advertisers can make off off it, and that is the way it should be.
I enjoy this show, and if I got my way they would even renew it with a 0.001 rating.

0.7 mil+ is pretty much in line with the rest of Syfy’s lineup, if they were to cancel all shows at that level they’d be left with nothing but reruns. That 0.7 mil also only represents live TV viewers in the US – it doesn’t include DVR users (which would up the number to at least 2 mil), online viewers, or international viewers. But those live numbers are the ones that count for advertisers (which presently provide the majority of the funding) – they don’t care about DVR users since they can just skip the ads, and for online – the ads… Read more »

Good episode, good season! They need to start making 24 episode seasons for this show! It’s going to be painful to wait a whole year to see what happens.

Season 2 Episode 13. Android, Ryo, Three, Five, Six alive. Two got messed up. Nyx is dead? Such a massive cliffhanger. Not totally sure how I feel about it, but otherwise a pretty good episode.

Yes I noticed something leaving the station before its explosion. Everyone died? Next season is all about the union workers that clean up the space station wreckage.

I can totally see the reasons Ryo would kill everyone else, but I have to say I’m surprised he killed his brother! It was really nice seeing Four get some major screen time in his centric episode as he’s been in the background for most of the series. I loved the Three-Five stuff in the first episode and Four giving us backstory on Android in the second while setting up the plot of her possibly getting her memories back – mixing up the characters more has been one of the best things to happen in season two along with better… Read more »

Now the 0.11 shows up. Guess that will be 4 shows renewed under a 0.20 for SYFY. I thought when things change in upper management, things are suppose to get better, not WORSE.

What is your point ? This is a Canadian TV show, which is broadcast in the United States and 87 other countries.International ratings are much better than in the season 1.To evaluate the work of management, you need to know all things relevant to their work, not to speculate on the basis of only some data.

Who are you addressing? It’s funded by an American Network is it not? An awful lot of the new series are shot in Canada, but owned by US corporations. Advertiser’s in every country are pretty much the same. If the ratings show it isn’t attracting enough viewers, they won’t advertise and the studios cancel the series.. It’s a simple process!

Not always. Infact a change in management often sinks a series, because they wanna put their own spin on things and change the storyline in a manner that loses their major fan base. It’s happened many times to other series. But a drastic drop in ratings for just one episode isn’t a good measuring stick. If three in a row tank, then it’s a done deal, they lost their fan base. But there’s only one episodes left so you won’t know until next year. But they better figure out why if the last episode has poor ratings, as usually the… Read more »

Nyx can not replaced One in the group, though I always hope the character comes back,it would be wise because it really can make a good story. It is clear to everyone. As for the episodes, loved the first one, shocked by the second one. I like that this epic war is coming and the crew will become heroes by knocking all of the evil out of the universe. Mankind even now needs something so dramatic and so jaw dropping that it forces all 8 billion of us to realize that we are better together then divided by religion, culture,… Read more »
