HBO may be headed back to South Dakota sooner than expected. TVLine reports the Deadwood reunion movie may begin filming next year.
As reported earlier, creator David Milch has already finished the script for the Western drama’s follow-up film. The original series, which ended in 2006 after three seasons, starred Timothy Olyphant, Ian McShane, Molly Parker, Jim Beaver, W. Earl Brown, Kim Dickens, Brad Dourif, and John Hawkes.
According to sources behind the scenes, HBO is planning to begin production on the Deadwood movie next fall. The network has not confirmed the news, but HBO chief Casey Bloys seemed very excited about the project during the Television Critics Association press conference this summer:
The one thing that I was concerned about was I wanted a script that would stand on its own [for Deadwood fans and non-fans]. [Series creator] David [Milch] totally delivered on that. I think it’s a terrific script. If we can do it on a budget that makes sense for us, and if we can get the cast together, we’re inclined to do it.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Deadwood? Are you excited for the reunion movie?
GREAT SHOW!!! Can’t wait!!
Please No More TV Revival
I just finished watching the whole 3 seasons was very sad that it didn’t have more love every character and story lines couldn’t stop watching ….But I would love to see this serie continue, sorry for my writing mistakes I’m French but watch all in English…Hope you come back with new seasons ,,PLEASE
I just saw the series and I must say it was well written. I felt cheated that it ended the way it did. I really hope they (HBO) resurrects the series.
My favorite show of all time even without a conclusion, HBO knows how to make the best shows like The Wire , The Sopranos, Game of Thrones etc. The best part about deadwood to me is most of the characters are based on real people and alot of what the show portrays is based on what really happened and like other HBO Shows as well they take you into another world , Deadwood is more of taking you into those times in a,way no show coukd ever top.
It is about time they followed up on Deadwood. There was no reason it couldn’t have continued for another season or two following the third season. It was dropped at a point that seemed very ridiculous. And now it might be decided to have a two hour movie just to finish it. I was very irritated they dropped it after season three. But, if is actually going to happen as a movie to finally finish one of the greatest tv shows, I can accept it. Still … they missed one of the greatest shows . I’m all for it.
That would make my day!
This would be beyond awesome. I’ve binged the series once and could watch it again. Superior acting and writing.
I watched when it originally aired and I’ve gone back and watched the series at least 50 plus times over , still just as interesting as the 1st time seeing each episode.
Yes. Please make the film
