Fans of the Marlon TV show have received a bit of unwelcome coal in their stockings this Christmas. NBC has cancelled the summer sitcom so there won’t be a third season.
An NBC family comedy, Marlon is loosely inspired by star and co-creator Marlon Wayan’s life. The series also stars Essence Atkins, Notlim Taylor, Amir O’Neil, Bresha Webb, and Diallo Riddle. The story centers on internet superstar Marlon Wayne (Wayans), who is a devoted — if whimsical — father. He and his ex-wife Ashley (Atkins) are committed to having a happy divorce, as they parent their teenaged daughter Marley (Taylor) and younger son, Zack (O’Neil).
Debuting during the summer of 2017, the Marlon series did pretty well for the peacock network in its first season. Those 10 episodes ended up averaging a 1.07 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.27 million viewers.
Marlon was renewed for a second season of another 10 installments in September 2017. Those episodes began airing in June 2018 and the ratings were way down. The second season ended up averaging a meager 0.61 rating with 2.64 million viewers.
Compared to the first season, that was down by about 40%. With ratings like that, it’s no shock that NBC has decided that they don’t want to order a third season.
This is the third scripted summer series of NBC’s to have ended in recent months, joining Shades of Blue and Reverie. The peacock network isn’t the only one cleaning house. ABC cancelled Take Two and CBS dropped Code Black and Salvation.
What do you think? Did you enjoy the Marlon TV show? Would you have watched a third season of this family comedy series?
I’m actually sad to see this show go. It was such a hilarious show, it was genuinely funny to me.. sad that they keep all these not so good shows but when a good FUNNY show comes, it just goes away. Wish more people would’ve watched. Wow
I think Marlon was a great series. It was hilarious and i would absolutely keep watching it. I hope they continue the show some other way like maybe bringing it back on netflix but I absolutely enjoyed the show!
Yes! I would definitely watch the show. Marlon is hilarious!!! Love the show!!! I wish you would bring it back. I just discovered the show and I found out that a lot of people didn’t know about it. I watch season 1 and 2 over and over again and now I’m left wanting more episodes and I’m not the only one. I’m so disappointed it’s gone. Please bring it back.
I was looking forward to Marlon Season 3. However, a lot of black shows mostly dont get renewed and thats so uncool. Hoping Netflix or Hulu will renew (fingers Crossed)
I’m so disappointed I would really like more episodes of the marlon way !!!!!!
Definitely would watch an additional season. Enjoyed the show and Marlon’s humor. Not many actors today could pull off what he does.
There are many reasons why a television series may be cancelled, for example, when a television show does not get enough viewers it can be cancelled. Television series being cancelled can happen quite frequently, however, when it is a show you enjoy watching it can be disappointing. Viewers grow with the characters and storylines of the show and when a series is cancelled abruptly or without a real ending, there can be a negative reaction from fans. Although the show was relatively new, Marlon was cancelled, and viewers were upset at the fact that it was cancelled before truly getting… Read more »
I hope Netflix, Hulu or another network. will pick up Marlon. Never say never.
Bring it back, comedy at its best!! People need to learn to go back in the day and live a little!!
First funny series..with sensitive issues faced.. this is different to anything else.. rating not going to go up unless more episodes, people don’t want to watch if there doing.. to get hooked and dropped.. bring it back without hesitation for 3 4 5 6 xx
**** you nbc
Marlon being cancelled after two seasons is upsetting yet no surprise. Most shows featuring black casts don’t last very long and two tears is about as long as the networks seem to be able to tolerate and show support for. Marlon is a very funny show but I was suspicious when season two was rushed with two shows per week. Black shows end despite ratings, without finales and without being shopped around to different times, days and channels like other shows. This is completely unfair but again, unsurprising. I support Marlon staying on the air. Try a different day or… Read more »
I hate networks. they are like screw all the people that watch. I wonder when their gonna get we live in a world now that dvr’s and binge watches. no way every show is going to be highly rated all the time. especially in the summer when everyone is out and about. why not allow it to come back see if the site hits a medium then decide. most of the time they cancel so quick there isn’t anyone who wants to watch because they know they will get wrapped up into it and then itll be cancelled once your… Read more »
I really enjoyed the show. Just recently watched season 1 & 2 on Netflix just for the laughs. I watched during regular season so that was my 2nd go around. Will miss.
I have been waiting for Marlon show to come back. I hope Netflix picks it up. The season is so short dor this show. Maybe they should have ran the season twice for people to catch it on tv. This show was a hidden gem and my daughter and I are gonna miss it.
I hope Netflix picks it up too.
