TV show description:
A Canadian drama series inspired by real life events, the Pure TV show centers on a Mennonite pastor, Noah Funk (Robbins). Noah must find a way to protect his family, remain true to his faith, carry on with his ministry, and run his dairy farm, all the while rooting out a drug trafficking ring.
Because he is anxious to keep the police out of their closed-off community, Noah decides to join the Mennonite Mob, to gather evidence on them and turn them in. He rationalizes that if his religious beliefs are true, God will protect him and intervene on his behalf. Still, Noah’s feelings of guilt and regret grow, as he gets more and more involved with the mob.
His wife, Anna (Paxton-Beesley), is an exemplary, devout Mennonite woman. When Noah gets in too deep, he finally tells her what he has been doing. Although she is appalled by the entire enterprise, as submissive and dutiful spouse, Anna does what she can to protect Noah, by keeping the drug operation running until he can bring it down.
Once a faithful Mennonite, Eli Voss (Outerbridge) rejected God after losing everything. While he tells his employees they’re smuggling drugs in order to help their community, he truly wants manipulate and degrade it. He resolves to corrupt Noah, no matter what.
With his personal and professional life in tatters, Bronco Novak (Buckley) needs to prove to himself, as well as his family and co-workers, that he can still be a father and cop. When he realizes what is going on with the local Mennonites, he latches on to a new purpose in life.
Will Noah and Bronco be able to protect one another and rid the Mennonites of this scourge, or will their mission prove their undoing?
Episode #6 — “Baptism”
After a bloody ambush nearly kills Agent O’Reilly [Perez] – and Voss leaves Abel [Rand] for dead on a Texas roadside – the mob moss returns to Mexico with Noah and a single purpose: to break the pastor’s faith and force him to accept Voss’s nihilistic view of the universe. A spiritual showdown ensues between an emotionally shattered Noah, and Voss who fears Noah’s faith as much as he despises it.
Relieved of her duties, O’Reilly and Bronco go rogue and head south of the border, recruiting a like-minded member of Mexican law enforcement to storm the Voss compound before it’s too late.
Back in Ontario, Anna’s efforts to save her home and family by turning Joey [Taylor] against older brother Gerry [Garrow] succeed only too well. After turning a blind eye, Isaac [Everett] is forced to confront the truth of his parents’ illegal activities, triggering a spiritual crisis that only resolves at the moment of his baptism and Noah’s safe return from Mexico.
