canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Ransom: Cancelled; No Season Two for CBS’ Saturday Night Drama

by Jessica Pena, May 17, 2017

Ransom TV show on CBS: (canceled or renewed?)

CBS’ Saturday night series Ransom was never a huge success, and now it’s been revealed they’ve cancelled the TV show after one season.

5/19 update: Ransom may not be cancelled and could still be renewed for season two. Details here.

The drama follows Eric Beaumont (Luke Roberts), an experienced crisis and hostage negotiator, and his team who are brought in to save lives when no one else can. The cast also includes Brandon Jay McLaren, Nazneen Contractor, and Sarah Greene.

Ransom debuted on a Sunday night in January to a low rating of 0.85 in the 18-49 demo and 6.65 million viewers. Once the show moved to its regular timeslot on Saturday nights, the numbers dropped even further. Overall, season one averaged a 0.43 in the 18-49 demo and 3.46 million viewers, making it CBS’ lowest-rated series for the 2016-2017 season.

However, despite low ratings, the show did have fans. When we asked viewers if they’d watch a second season of Ransom, 91% said “yes.”

Additionally, the show was produced internationally which made it less expensive for CBS than some of the network’s other series. Nevertheless, the network has decided not to move on with Ransom.

What do you think? Did you see Ransom? Do you wish it had been renewed for a second season?

LOVED this show! Finally a new show that had some interest. It was just too bad that CBS chose to put it in a Saturday night slot. CBS has a bad habit of keeping garbage shows like, Mom, Two Broke Girls, Man with a Plan, & Kevin can Wait. Pure tripe! They NEVER have enough shows to fill their entire week from 7pm -10pm. They try & cram all of the Good shows together on Mon, Tues, & Wed, forget Thursday. It’ll be Netflix & HBO pretty soon & no Primetime TV for us! Bummer!

I totally agree with you. Had they just moved it to another night I truly think it would have done better. For some reason my DVR wouldn’t tape all the shows but just a few. I really enjoyed the show and I hope it finds a home on another network.

I thoroughly enjoyed Ransom! My husband and I watched every episode and were anxious to hear it would have a second season and be given a fair chance to garner an even larger audience. We’re both bummed that it’s fan base was not important enough to “the powers that be” to keep the show on air.
I don’t know if they read these comments or if they make a difference, but I would love to see CBS have a change of heart, and renew Ransom. Thank you.

So disappointed. We looked forward to Ransom. This show was a little less gruesome than Crossing Lines, which we watched until it was cancelled.

Again CBS makes a poor decision. Didn’t even promote the show. How can people watch it if they don’t know it’s on. Really good show with a lot of potential. Too bad CBS dropped another ball!!

I am SO tired (especially with CBS) of cancelling all the “smart” shows. Shows that make you think and they keep BS on-air. I really hope that this show finds another home.

Great show. What are people watching? I’m very disappointed that CBS would cancel this show. I think the American viewing public has decided to watch nonsense and not a show with a quality cast and a great story line.
