canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Ray Donovan: Cancelled by Showtime; No Season Eight

Ray Donovan TV show on Showtime: canceled, no season 8

This may be the one problem that Ray Donovan can’t fix. Showtime has decided to cancel the Ray Donovan TV show, opting not to renew it for an eighth and final season.

Ray Donovan stars Liev Schreiber, Alan Alda, Zach Grenier, Jon Voight, Dash Mihok, Eddie Marsan, Pooch Hall, Kerris Dorsey, and Graham Rogers. The series centers on professional fixer Ray Donovan (Schreiber), who’s working to be the man his family needs him to be. While he makes progress with Dr. Amiot (Alda), there are dangers from the past that require the Ray Donovan of old. Between NYC mayor Ed Feratti (Grenier), an unrelenting NYPD officer hunting for the truth and clients old and new, Ray struggles to find the balance between fixing for clients and fixing himself. And when Feratti’s corruption brings a piece of Mickey’s past (Voight) back to New York, Ray is forced to seek answers to long-buried questions.

The seventh season of Ray Donovan averaged a 0.13 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 932,000 viewers. Compared to season six, that’s down by 21% in the demo and down by 3% in viewership.

During this year’s winter TCA press conference, Showtime boss Gary Levine suggested Ray Donovan could be coming to an end. He said, “I think Ray Donovan is nearing the end of its run. We always talked about seven or eight seasons. Nothing has been decided yet but it’s fair to say it is nearing the end.” Schreiber suggested that fans of Ray Donovan urge Showtime to renew the show for season eight.

“After seven incredible seasons, Ray Donovan has concluded its run on Showtime,” the cable channel said in a statement. “We are proud that the series ended amid such strong viewership and on such a powerful note. Our deepest thanks go to Liev Schreiber, Jon Voight, showrunner David Hollander and the entire cast and crew, past and present, for their dedicated work.”

The seventh season finale, which aired on January 19th, left viewers with a cliffhanger for a series finale.

What do you think? Are you a fan of the Ray Donovan TV show? Do you think that Showtime should have ordered an eighth season or, at least some sort of wrap up for the series?

Such a genius show, the way it’s written keeps you so attached to the characters since they are one family, and now after seven seasons we all want to know what happens to everybody! Hope showtime realizes they need to keep it going! Best drama show ever! Surpasses Sopranos by far!

One of our favorite show on any network. One more season is needed to tie up the loose ends. So sad it may not be renewed.

Showtime should without a doubt renew Ray Donovan for an eight & even a ninth season. This show is by far the greatest drama ever since The Sopranos. Liev Schreiber is the ultimate hero on this show. The rest of the cast is amazing. I will in protest cancel my subscription to Showtime if Ray Donovan is cancelled. All Ray-Ray fans must let Showtime know how they feel. I love you Liev!!!

We need closure whether a final season or a 2 hour wrap up. Please don’t leave your dedicated fans hanging.

Such a shame. Loved the series and would have loved to see him finally get some success. Showtime should have renewed and if they wont change their minds, then how about hbo or Netflix for a couple more seasons to bring it to a satisfactory conclusion.

It’s so sad that Showtime chose to end the series on a cliffhanger. I hope some other network will pick it up for season 8 so fans can get a resolution.

Another thing if i may, Liev and the gang or the producers should shop around and maybe another network like HBO might pick up the show for a final season or maybe even more since there are so many fans. If Showtime wants to be stubborn about it every single person should cancel Showtime and see how they like it since they are disappointing their fans. You watch every season and episode and then don’t get a proper ending just cancel it like it doesn’t matter. It does, i enjoy the show very much. I look forward to it every… Read more »

One of my all-time faves… I am heart broken.
Hopefully, Showtime will reconsider & give us at least one more season, instead of letting us hanging.. If not Showtime, maybe another premium network will pick it up.
Keep your fingers X’d.

If this is true, I’m very disappointed. First, they stopped the Blu-rays of the seasons, now this bright idea. God bless to the actors and entire crew. Thank you so much for your talents.

We need a finale, a movie or something. After being faithful viewers for so many years, we should be given an ending. Why follow other Showtime series then if only to cut the story almost mid sentence.

I’m so disappointed. I love this show. The great characters. I saw every episode from the beginning. This show needs to have the 8th season. Please rethink it n have the 8th season. There’s still so much in this show to continue. Cancel some other terrible show not this!… I would get my snacks n be glued to the screen.
Come On ppl!!! Thanks. For your consideration.

You don’t have to do a whole new season of Ray Donovan… Us viewers deserve at least ONE final episode to truly end it… it’s not fair to leave it the way they did.. I think it’s a terrible thing to do to us who have watched all 7 seasons!!! Come on Showtime!!!! Give us at least one more final episode…
